I mean, Driver and DiCaprio are both just excellent in their roles...I can't see either of them getting less than 1st or 2nd place, personally. The rest of the line up is harder to nail down, and it all hinges on how Louis reacts to Phoenix...in this case I'm guessing he'll still react rather positively despite all the reservations he has on the film. As for the other two, Pryce is very good, and from what I understand Banderas is as well.
Also I’ve been watching Succession. Frankly MacKay’s flairs work a lot better in this context, also seems like maybe Jeremy Strong should collaborate more with him since they’re quite a solid team. Whole cast is pretty solid on the whole I think, though I’m still not what to make of Nicholas Braun.
Calvin: I’ve only seen the first season so far (and the first episode of season 2) and I had the same thoughts about Braun at first, but once he and Macfayden started sharing a lot of scenes together I actually decided he was one of my favorites in the cast.
Louis: Your thoughts on the costume design for Dolemite is My Name? Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded if it had gotten nominated instead of The Irishman, although though I get why the latter got in.
On a different note, I just watched "Awakenings" for the first time, and....eh, it could've been better. The movie's fine enough, I suppose, but it just follows very standard story template. It never quite finds the emotional power of its story, due to its weaker moments in writing, and general overuse of music.
As far as the performances go, its certainly not one of de Niro's best, and perhaps seeing his work in this film makes me appreciate "The Irishman" all the more. It simply comes across as the most obvious form of "acting", and even his quieter scenes are nothing to write home about. By contrast, Williams is honestly quite decent and effective in his role, and its one of the best instances of him avoiding his comic routine in a purely dramatic turn.
Good costumes, as recreations of Rudy Ray Moore's ridiculous aesthetic, and an additional period realization in the "supporting costumes". Definitely stands out as striking within the film itself though that is built off of what was featured in the original Dolemite, though still definitely an achievement there.
Mitchell Murray: some weeks ago was my first time watching that too, and i basically agree with you. I would say it's worth a watch, but i frankly cannot remember that much from it even though it has not been that long ago

If Phoenix gets more than a 4, I’m leaving the blog and possibly the internet.

Hey guys!
Have you seen Casey Affleck and Anna Pniowsky's performances in Light of My Life? Do you think they get into Louis's lineup?

Jack: I haven’t seen it yet, though the concept of Casey Affleck in a universe removed of women feels like there must be some dark punchline to it.

Calvin: I remember reading that McKay won a DGA for directing the pilot. Is that episode any good to deserve that?
Michael: I’ve just started so I’m glad to hear that.
Emi: Eh, it’s nothing amazing but it’s competent enough direction. Honestly the writing in the series is what I think stands out more.

I have no idea how this is is gonna shake out outside of Driver, so this is mostly guess work.
