OMFG Louis you picked the most amazing picture of Tony Leung Chiu Wai haha lol his infamous stare scene with Lau Ching Wan.
Beast Cops is a masterpiece in my opinion, but The Longest Nite is also a great film noir I think Wong and Leung are both incredible, I do not regret choosing them at all.
I think Wong was slightly better because Wong gives his greatest ever performance, Tony Leung was truly great however
I hope Lau Ching Wan, Roy Cheung and Sam Lee impress you in some way Louis
1) Anthony Wong 2) Jeff Bridges 3) Brendan Gleeson 4) Tony Leung Chiu Wai 5) Ian Mckellen
Wait, WHAT? No Jim Carrey? I even held back from suggesting him because everyone else was suggesting him and it seemed so obvious. Why on earth would you not talk about Jim Carrey?
I should say if anybody wants to watch The Longest Nite, here is a link, Beast Cops is online but only in its native language is rare to find, I had to buy it.
RatedRStar: What ratings do you think Louis will give to each performance in the lineup, as well as Jim Carrey in The Truman Show, because I'll be slightly annoyed if he gets a 5 and he doesn't get reviewed for it. Also for both Leung Chiu Wai and Wong, despite what you said earlier, I have slightly more confidence in the former than the latter in this lineup, mainly because of his ratings track record, as well as you saying that he plays against type, which would probably work to his advantage with Louis.
@Luke: I think Bridges will do well but I think The Big Lebowski is a bit overrated, I would say between 4.5 and 5
Brendan Gleeson has a great track record, but this performance doesnt seem to stand out as much as his others as its rarely talked about, 4.5 I reckon.
Ian Mckellen I think is by far the weakest, I thought he was merely solid, I think the film is really bad and doesnt really go far enough with its ideas and its quite dull I think, a 4 a reckon.
Jim Carrey is solid in The Truman Show but I thought it was pretty straight forward performance, it doesnt surprise me at all that he isnt on this list, a 4 for me.
Tony Leung would seem like a safer bet than Wong because Tony Leung does have a great record but Wong so far has only been recognised for his supporting work, Wongs true calling is as a leading man just as I said that Chang Chen was a leading man.
Tony Leung is truly scary, one scene in The Longest Nite has Tony Leung threatening to stab a womans eyeballs out simply because she wouldnt frame Lau Ching Wan lol, I reckon a 4.5 bordering on 5.
Anthony Wong actually was suffering from a serious illness when he made Beast Cops since he looks very unwell in the film, it actually works perfectly, because he is a very flawed human, he is corrupted at times, but he is still a cop, its hard to explain because Beast Cops is not an action thriller as the trailer that Louis saw suggested, its a character study, and every character in Beast Cops feel so real and human, A 5 from me, I reckon Louis will go 4 bordering on 4.5.
RatedRStar: Is that your only request for '98 supporting
By the way, I actually haven't seen The Truman Show, but since I thought Carrey was a shoo in coming into this year, I'm really just praying that he reviews every 5 star performance that he's seen for this year, like any other year as well, because I'm pretty much a completest when it comes to this blog.
Yes Sam Lee was the only one, I didnt suggest Alex Fong because Louis has already reviewed him on the blog, and Patrick Tam is in Beast Cops and since I could have easily suggested Roy Cheung and Sam Lee again lol I thought since Louis will see them all anyway there was no point.
When I recently won a predictions I was very tempted to choose Roy Cheung for Beast Cops but I had planned to suggest Jakub for Suicide Room ages ago so I chose him instead,
I should say, Louis I think you are gonna hate Suicide Room lol for many reasons.
Carrey - 4(I did not choose him because I don't think this is a great performance. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man on the Moon offer much more compelling performances by Carrey. This one technically is really that much far off of say his work in the Mask, when he's Stanley Ipkiss anyways, just it happens to be a more daring film. Carrey I do feel serves his purpose and gives a good portrayal of his characters various fairly straightforward reactions to learning the truth about his world. He tones down his usual comic manner, although he does keep it here to a certain degree unlike in Eternal Sunshine. I don't really have anything bad to say about this performance, but I just don't find it that interesting of a work)
Depp - 3.5(It's been a long while since I've watched this film but I recall him being that one note of the gonzo that certainly fits the character of Hunter S. Thompson. I recall his performance being enjoyable enough, but I don't really remember loving him either)
98 Supporting just has Sam Lee for the Long Summer.
Robert: He wasn't requested, but he was in a tie for the second most suggested performance. The sincerest apologies to all fans of Jim Carrey's performance, but I just did not feel like reviewing him for that film.
It's okay Louis, it's your blog haha thank you so much for all the effort you put into these reviews of performances.
I've just watched The Longest Nite and boy oh boy is Louis in for a treat. I loved it even more than Beast Cops I think, Leung is great but watch out for Sean Lau Ching Wan it is absolutely beserk to see him in such a role
I've seen quite a few reviews where Wan had the more praised performance, so Louis, please do at least a short review for him, if you do end up liking him more than Leung.
And sorry Louis I'll be changing my predictions to:
1. Leung 2. Bridges 3. Wong 4. Gleeson 5. McKellen (who by the way I would actually rate around a 4.5 since I quite love his performance, I'm sure Louis will be quite put off by the awful film though)
I've decided to go back to my original prediction (Just can't make my mind up on this lineup at all.) 1. Leung 2. Bridges 3. Gleeson 4. Wong 5. Mckellen
Lau Ching Wan (4.5) I thought he great, he is very very low key which works perfectly with Tony Leungs hateful character, they have great chemistry, he is very cool and badass.
His best scene in the film in my opinion is when the tables turn in the prison cell scene, how Tony Leung has complete control but then loses it when he realises that Lau Ching Wan is setting him up, as Lau Ching Wan at first is sort of the hero who we root for when he is getting beaten up but then when the tables turn he makes a formidable adversary for Leung.
I've seen the trailer it looks really good! I always really like Mulligan (yes, even in The Great Gatsby where I thought that she, although miscast, managed to really get into the depth of the very complex chatacter of Daisy) and I thought that Matthias Schoernaerts was great in Rust and Bone, so I'm expecting him to be very good in both this and Suite Francaise. Not so excited about Sheen and Sturridge, I think they might not do very well in this but we'll see.
Luke (and any other interested parties): I'm very sorry I didn't get up my Interstellar review and Nightcrawler/Gone Girl mini-reviews this weekend. I have an 8-minute Arabic language video presentation due on Wednesday and am simply very busy. Hopefully, not just for your sake but for mine as well, I will get them up this weekend. Thanksgiving should give me the opportunity to settle down and chill enough to get them written. I may even go see something else too; I simply don't know yet.

I am actually more worried about Sam Lee when it comes to his review for 1998 supporting.
Also it will be interesting to see who out of Patrick Tam for Beast Cops and Sam Lee for The Longest Summer was more deserving of the award that year.
RatedRStar: Is that your only request for '98 supporting

Daniel, I am curious why you chose Suicide Room, do you associate yourself with the main character?
Yes I do...
Did someone request McKellen? Because that movie was fucking horrendous.
