Louis: Ratings and thoughts on the non-saves.
Can't say I'm at all disappointed with your choices Louis, Considine in particular, I'm really excited for.
Really happy to see Coogan, Foster and Huston who i wasn't sure would be here. But there is a severe lack of Yoo Ah-in. Louis.
Have to admit, I'm really suprised with Redford and Yoo missing out.
No Yoo, Hedges, and Stanfield is a bit disappointing but interesting choices I have to say.

I hope Ben Foster does not win again! Hoping that Matt Dillon or Ryan Gosling will win.
PS: Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) is far superior than Foster in 2013.

I’m ranking Dillon so high because he must have given a great performance in Louis’ books to be reviewed here.
That's a great advice, Louis...I knew I should have watched Aquaman instead.

Daaaaaaamn not even Redford? I'm not that surprised about Hedges, Stanfield, or even Yoo, but I thought Redford was a cert.
I wonder if any of the non saves are 5’s. To be honest I kind of figured Redford might be a snub when I saw that The Old Man and the Gun has dropped down Louis’ list but Yoo is a genuine surprise given that I’d assumed there’d be things he wanted to discuss. On the bright side it’s spreading the wealth of films a bit.
Louis
Where's Joaquin Phoenix in You Were Never Really Here? Is it 2017 or 2018?
Brazinterma: He's 2017.
Louis: You left out Ethan Hawke from the labels.

Louis: And Cage to, if you please.
Luke:
Wolff - 4(His performance hasn't really stuck with me all that much. Don't get me wrong though he certainly gives a good performance. This being in just kind of being the average teen in his early scenes and really his best scene comes pretty early on. The moment of the allergic is extremely well portrayed from capturing first the intensity of the moment of the fear then the haunted almost broken disbelief at what has happened. He's good though say occasionally borders on just a little much in his stressed out state the perpetuates the rest of his performance. Mind you this approach makes sense just the execution of it occasionally borders in iffy territory. For the most part he manages to pull it together to give a compelling portrayal of kid just eternally scarred by his experience and just all the more shocked by his mother's atypical, to say the least, reaction to it.)
Stanfield - 4.5(For all he was the closest to making it into the lineup as I do like his performance a great deal. Stanfield makes for a great straight man to the entire experience of the film and thrives because he never plays into the weirdness within his own work. Stanfield remains consistent throughout in playing how an average guy who react to every situation and is great from that. This being in portraying just the complete befuddlement at his early position then slowly growing the confidence to build himself up a bit. He manages to brings the right sort of endearing charm within the haplessness within it all though again just as a guy who's just trying to do his best, even making his more amoral decisions understandable to an extent. He's great though particularly in his later scene in essentially showing the average man struggling to find his place in the aggressively weirder world he finds himself in. He is absolutely hilarious, but while being completely convincing in his reaction to the later plot elements. My favorite scene of his is perhaps the main one with Hammer as he makes the disbelief so real yet also so very funny. It's a terrific weighted core that he brings to the film as he's always honest even as the film is completely mad.)
Cage - 4.5(I'll admit Cage does probably give my single favorite line delivery of the year in his hesitated passionate way way of saying "Crazy Evil", as though it is the only way he can rationalize what has happened to him without breaking down into either an emotional mess or just going completely mad. Cage obviously is pretty limited for the first half though he certainly exudes the right sense of affection with his moments with Riseborough. He is then absolutely heartbreaking in his reaction in the burning scene. His following bathroom scene is an incredible portrayal of just the most visceral grief and anger in one singular act, that frankly seemed to scare the cameraman if you watch the scene. After wards though his performance is largely reaction shots. Striking ones mind you as he conveys the growing madness of the character as well as the continued appropriate intensity as he goes on his revenge path.)
Redford - 4.5(I'll admit part of this came from something apart from his performance regarding the film that took it down a notch for me, and it did bother me while watching the film, though I tried to overlook it. That being the film tries to enforce its "thesis" essentially of the bank robberies being the way of the man living life to its fullest, while introducing then ignoring the actually rather horrible behavior he's engaged in regarding family abandonment, never mind the potential dangers of bank robbing. I think it would've been better to fully fictionalize the character honestly, as that condition kind of gets in the way from the approach. An approach I otherwise really did appreciate in its light easy going charm, with Redford in prime light easy form. Redford plays the part essentially as a man walking on air much of the time. This is Redford perhaps at his most charming honestly as he really just makes the world shine with that smile of his. In addition he has such pleasant chemistry with Spacek, and does well just reveal that joy of life in his moments robbing the bank. The film never lets Redford really approach the darker side of the character though, beyond a brief scene where he hijacks a car, a moment that is well portrayed by Redford mind you as his nuanced reaction towards an understanding the dangers to his hostage is well performed. I wish the film allowed Redford to explore that a bit more, as he certainly is incredibly winning here and just being so charismatic is a nice side of Redford. I just wish there had been bit more substance there, again that's on the film.)
Foster - 4.5(I'll admit this is one where I just really didn't want to slog through Galveston again. Foster though is terrific in making the most out of the unfocused film. Foster though just has that conviction in his work to sell every step of his performance and every rushed moment in the film. I mean you want the intensity of a man feeling death on its way, Foster reflects this in heartbreaking detail. You wish to see a believable sympathetic work in his interactions with Fanning, Foster's there to. You want some particularly harrowing reactions of grief later on, you have that there without question. Do you want some strange 30 years later scene with some not great makeup, but where Foster still conveys the age and the weight of his haunting experience, well Foster delivers in that too.)
Yoo - 4(Well watching the film again for Yeun actually determined that I was not going to review him I must admit. As I think he does give a fine performance, but I was going to whip out the ole "Director's Film" card on this one. In that I think the obsession of the character, both before and after is more powerfully portrayed by Lee's direction of the sequences than what Yoo is doing in these moments. He is more than fine, however I think even in the determination to against Ben is more pronounced through how we feel about him due to Yeun's performance than what Yoo produces in a given moment. Again not that he's bad, I just did not get pulled in specifically in his work beyond the moment where he describes the scene where he lost his mother. That is a moving scene for sure, and it works well in contrast to what Yeun is doing, however the rest of the time I did think he was overshadowed by Lee's direction. He's used well within that, but he wasn't more than that for me.)
Hedges - 4.5(This is by far Hedges's performance so far, and I certainly was very impressed him here. I'm glad to say that it was as any actor who gets as many roles as he does best step up his game. I'm happy to say that he certainly did that as he manages to convey a lot of the more complex nuances of this role that could've been easily lost. Mind you he hits the big moments well such as his emotional breakdown in the group that certainly is powerful and well performed. My favorite moments of his though where how he handled the quieter ones. This is just like in his interactions that lead to essentially his discovery of himself. These moments are subtle, yet potent as manages to convey the understanding of what it means within his family just as he is his discovered desires. Hedges resists any urge to ever go over the top here creating such a well grounded work that makes even an impact in his reactions to the other group members, or when he is being given advice about what he should do. His greatest scene though is with Crowe at the end, though as both are able to show both the distance and the love between the two in such an authentic way that makes the moment of coming together strained, but in turn all the more earned because of that.)
Well I guess we’ll disagree on Yoo completely having watched the film twice, but you did point something out that nagged me a bit about Old Man, and I’m ecastic that you did love Hedges as one of the higher 4.5’s. He’s my runner-up for the year.
Aahhh, I actually was hoping for a Hedges review, although I'm quite glad about the 4.5. I think he should definitely look for more quiet, reactive roles, since he is quite good at them. Although I don't know if Honey Boy will play to his strengths though...
The ending of Boy Erased is the best acted scene of the year, period.
Calvin: Seconded...or Top Five at least.
Louis: Your thoughts on the cinematography for Mandy?
Yeah, i gotta disagree on Yoo right there. I understand the gripes but i feel he overcame the Directors Film position which he easily could've been put in. But i'm glad we're not gonna miss out on any fives. As for Hedges all his scenes with Crowe are just perfect and i hope he stays on track somehow.
Louis: Your updated top ten Russell Crowe acting moments.
Calvin: For sure. Though, I'd still argue that the burning scene from Mandy has to be right up there on the Top 7 at least.
Theory: Dillon is a trap made to fool us into ranking him higher, but he’s really going to get like a 2 or something.
Robert: I think he just wants to talk about the movie, more than anything.
I'm not sure if Louis will waste a review on a bad performance in this line.
Thoughts on John Cho in Searching & Joaquin Phoenix in You Were Never Really Here?
Louis: Thoughts on...
Hilary Swank & Blythe Danner in What They Had
Richie Merritt & Bel Powley in White Boy Rick
The cast of Bird Box
Jovan Adepo, Mathilde Ollivier & Pilou Asbaek in Overlord
Anders Danielsen Lie in 22 July
1. Ethan Hawke
2. Paddy Considine
3. John C. Reilly
4. Jakob Cedergren
5. John Huston
1. Ryan Gosling
2. Ben Foster
3. Steve Coogan
4. Marcello Fonte
5. Matt Dillon (I bet he'll be the first reviewed, so I'll base my decision of whether or not to watch the film on that.)
As for the top 5 overall, I'm pretty gutted that Cooper, Hedges, Redford, Diggs and Stanfield are all out of the picture. I suppose my picks from those left would be Hawke, Considine, Gosling, Reilly and Dafoe, which would be a respectable lineup.
1.Phoenix
2.Hawke
3.Reilly
4.Cedergren
5.Considine
6.Huston
1.Gosling
2.Foster
3.Reilly
4.Coogan
5.Fonte
6.Dillon
Louis: Your rating and thoughts on Matthew McConaughey in White Boy Rick.
And thoughts on 22 July and ratings/thoughts on the cast.
Louis: Love how you put "Don't watch it" almost like a dare lol, I might watch it just out of sheer belligerence xD.
Who's glad that we're finally getting a Considine review. :)
And I'll post my predictions after the first review from each lineup.
I will wait as well.
Luke: I know I am. A welcome surprise!
And I thought McConaughey easily gave the best performance in that film. I'd give him a 4. Oh and they should've gotten Tye Sheridan for the lead role.
RatedRStar: Ahh I'm actually tempted to watch it now :o, but I'll have some self-control and wait for Dillon's review for further details
Louis: And if you're able to, could you watch:
The Tale (Laura Dern)
Lean On Pete
Love, Simon
The Rider
Mid90s
Unsane (Claire Foy)
Vox Lux
Apostle (Gareth Evans/Dan Stevens)
Christopher Robin
Searching
The Mule
The Children Act
On Chesil Beach
The Miseducation Of Cameron Post
American Animals
Under The Silver Lake
Hold The Dark (Jeffrey Wright)
Colette
The Christmas Chronicles
The Little Stranger
Sunset
Peterloo
Cargo (Martin Freeman)
Rewatcjed The Guilty. I'm really excited for Cedergren's review now. I predict at least half of this line-up to get fives.
When i saw The Guilty, I did laugh out loud when Cedergren angrily puts his headset down and it flings back and hits him, I know how that feels lol.
Yeah I’d agree it’s a trap if it wasn’t such a strong lineup this year.
1. Jakob Cedergren
2. John C. Reilly
3. Paddy Considine
4. Ethan Hawke
5. John Huston
1. Ryan Gosling
2. Matt Dillon
3. Ben Foster
4. Marcello Fonte
5. Steve Coogan
Louis: Also ratings for the performances whose thoughts I asked for.
Pretty sure most are in agreement that Gosling's winning the overall without question.
Louis: your thoughts on 22 July and the cast?
Louis: Could you try Shoplifters again. It appears that it may've been updated.
Forgot about Border.
And if you've seen it, thoughts on Destroyer and rating and thoughts on Kidman.
Louis: Have you seen Mirai
Predictions, which are definitely subject to change:
1. Hawke
2. Considine
3. Reilly
4. Cedergren
5. Huston
1. Gosling
2. Foster
3. Coogan
4. Fonte
5. Dillon
Louis and everyone else: Thoughts on the Frozen II trailer.
Louis: Lastly, could you also watch Journey's End with Sam Claflin, Paul Bettany and Toby Jones.
And have you seen They Shall Not Grow Old.
To add what Luke has written, could you watch Tag as well please, Louis.
I'm rooting for Hawke to win myself, but Gosling would make a fine winner.
Hawke's my favourite. Gosling's review could potentially be more positive than Blade Runner 2049 so all I hope for is that Hawke will make the top 5.
Luke: He did see American Animals btw. Blake Jenner is in the Supporting Overall.
Also, if Gosling takes the win, then that means Harry Dean Stanton could hold on to his :D
Not to mention that he's the only one out of his contemporaries that doesn't have a win on here yet (Ledger, Foster, Gyllenhaal).
Bryan: Thanks. :)
Louis: Thoughts on American Animals and ratings/thoughts on the cast. Apologies for the amount of questions. I don't mind you completing them on the first review.
I’m pretty sure the winner will come down to Reilly and Gosling.
Louis: Ratings and thoughtsnon Hunnam and Malek in Papillon.

i don't think Gosling will be a clear winner for Louis. After all most of us thought Yeun would win his line easily. But Gosling would my choice for the year and i hope he wins.
Bryan, RatedRstar and Michael:
It is not a dare! I don't want anyone watching the film because he's in my lineup, trust me. Don't do it.

3. Hawke
4. Considine
5. Huston
1. Gosling
2. Foster
