Maciej, I would agree with you, but he is the only actor who appears in the film for the whole time. Salvatore is the obvious lead but he is played by 3 different actors.
most people used to say the greatest actor in the 80s was De Niro, I think the greatest actor in the 80s was William Hurt. I mean, look at his films in the 80s, all of them should have given him a nomination, William Hurt could have got 4 oscar nominations in a row he was that good.

I'm quite surprised actually that Hurt didn't get nominated for Accidental Tourist - he seemed to be nominated a lot back then. Strange how his career petered out - Kevin Spacey kind of started getting the parts he would have been first choice for 10 years earlier. Though Spacey's not doing so brilliantly now either.

I'm very disappointed you didn't choose to review Philippe Noiret, but please try to see him for the final rankings.
Anyway:
1. Jeremy Irons
2. Bob Hoskins
3. John Malkovich
4. William Hurt
5. Forest Whitaker
My guess:
1. Irons
2. Hoskins
3. Whitaker
4. Malkovich
5. Hurt
Irons has this in a landslide.
I don't know about Louis, but I felt Noiret was more of a supporting (great performance nevertheless)

4.Hurt
5.Whitaker
