Alternate Best Actor 2005: Results

5. Robert Downey Jr. in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang- Downey finds just the right sardonic tone for his performance that fits his film like a glove.
4. Tommy Lee Jones in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada- Jones perfectly cast himself portraying the complex motivations of his character brilliantly.
3. Guy Pearce in The Proposition- Pearce gives a strong understated performance that is particularly effective in portraying the complex relationship that motivates his character.
2. Viggo Mortensen in A History of Violence- Mortensen is terrific in his depiction of the slow dissolution of his character.
1. Ray Winstone in The Proposition- The underrated Ray Winstone wins this year with his powerful performance as a man trying to bring the law to the lawless. Suggestions for 2005 Supporting:

Clifton Collins Jr. in Capote
Danny Huston in The Proposition
Mickey Rourke in Sin City
Kevin Costner in The Upside of Anger
Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

As for acclaimed roles I haven't seen:

Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven
Keanu Reeves in Thumbsucker (no, really)
Jesse L. Martin in Rent (apparently he's the only good thing)

I see you added Gleeson for Six Shooter here, but can you really do that since it's a short? (I mean, it's your blog so you can do whatever you want with it, but I was just wondering)
