And The Nominees Were Not:

Due to the ensemble nature of the year I have decided to review multiple performances in each film insane as that might be. To allow you to not go insane in attempting a prediction I will reduce the contest to only five.

Samuel L. Jackson in Django Unchained

Sam Rockwell in Seven Psychopaths

Javier Bardem in Skyfall

Tom Hanks in Cloud Atlas

James Spader in Lincoln

This was such a great year for Supporting Actors. Even trying to keep it to 10, I found myself having to leave out some great performances.

My 10:
Red Hook Summer: Thomas Jefferson Byrd
Savages: Benicio Del Toro
Django Unchained: Leonardo DiCaprio
Killing Them Softly: James Gandolfini
Beasts of the Southern Wild: Dwight Henry
The Master: Philip Seymour Hoffman
Safety Not Guaranteed: Jake M. Johnson
Seven Psychopaths: Sam Rockwell
Premium Rush: Michael Shannon
Django Unchained: Christoph Waltz

Samuel L. Jackson and Javier Bardem are also great picks, and then you've got Paul Giamatti in Cosmopolis, John Travolta in Savages...it's an embarassment of riches.

Oh my goodness, wow! I hope you're planning on doing this by film and not by separate performance cause that's gonna take a while. Anyways, pleased you cut this down for predictions' sake, though the choices you left don't really make guessing the outcome any easier, and that's a good thing.
1. Javier Bardem
2. Sam Rockwell
3. Samuel L. Jackson
4. James Spader
5. Tom Hanks

I will do it per film.

First off, interesting approach. Second, I'll just say I hated Cloud Atlas. I thought it was boring and WAY too long. I ADMIRE the fact that it's so ambitious, but I didn't like it. None of the actors impressed me, except maybe Ben Whishaw. I thought one of Broadbent's stories was beyond pointless.

Louis, I'm trying to organize pages on my blog, but am having trouble figuring out how to combine them and then link to them like you have for all of the years. How do you do that?

Sad you didn't include Ezra Miller in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Matthew McConaughey in any of his films, or anyone from Les Misérables. But anyway:

1) Javier Bardem (great)
2) Samuel L. Jackson (great)
3) James Spader (I didn't notice his performance, so it was nothing bad, but not even good)
4) Sam Rockwell (he was overacting)
5) Tom Hanks (but he was considered leading, but anyway, he was fine)

DiCaprio was excellent, Walken, Harrelson and Waits are all very very good Broadbent and Whishaw were very decent, I didn't like Weaving at all - think he was overacting and his creation of an old lady was awful and Strathairn was OK... :)

Jackson was great, but I think DiCaprio and Waltz were better. Bardem was fantastic. Hanks and Spader were nothing special if you ask me. I haven't seen Rockwell.
Predictions:
1. Bardem
2. Jackson
3. Rockwell
4. Spader
5. Hanks

My guess:

1. Bardem
2. Jackson
3. Rockwell
4. Spader
5. Hanks

Hanks was terrible in Cloud Atlas. Probably the third worst male performance I saw this year behind Guy Pearce in Lawless and Ben Mendelsohn in The Dark Knight Rises.

Im stunned Ezra Miller for the second time has been snubed over Tom Hanks of all people who I thought was terrible lol

1)Javier Bardem

3)Samuel L Jackson
4)James Spader
5)Tom Hanks

I thought Ben Whishaw was better than Hanks, Whishaw was also very good in Skyfall.

Michael: You simply need to label all the pages the same to keep them together.

I would like to add Ewan Mcgregor in The Impossible,Pat Healy in Compliance & Edward Norton in Moonrise Kingdom.

Louis all these performances that arent in the reviewing, will these still be in the final rankings, like Ezra Miller, Albert Finney, Ewan Mcgregor, Edward Norton etc.

Louis Morgan said...

I planned to put them there.
