I didnt like Nolte or Hill that much, Branagh did an impression which was ok. Plummer was ok and worthy, Von Sydow would be my personal choice but the film I dint like.brilliant, very weak year because of Brooks absense.

Albert Brooks so should have been nominated.

Only seen Plummer and Hill. Plummer was just amazing really - he used the very stereotypical mannerisms and played with them brilliantly and created a playful, entertaining, wonderful, touching performance. He's a beginner in the movie and shows it so brilliantly. I felt that sometimes he was acting like a child at the playground. :) Rich, layered performance.

Hill was good but nothing amazing, or nomination-worthy.

I so want to see Max Von Sydow! I could watch the movie right now, I just have to rewatch Albert Nobbs instead. I'm sure you won't really like Nolte (you don't seem to be very fond of him) and I don't expect you to really warm up to Von Sydow.

The most interesting review will be Branagh's. I wonder if you'll be tougher than usual considering he's playing your idol, Laurence Olivier. :) Can you start with him?

Predictions:
1)Plummer (he will easily win)
2)Branagh
3)Nolte
4)Hill
5)Von Sydow

I really started to hope Plummer wins the Oscar. It would be an incredibly deserving win.

To tell the truth, this made me very excited. Honestly, the actor categories are much more interesting and suspenseful this year. And I'm very grateful to have your blog because I'm not one of those who only care about the actresses and it's a breath of fresh air to see what you have to say.

Nolte for me far better than all 4 and he has been around a long time too, broke my in 2 when he asks to see his grandchildren that scene would give him the trophy on my ballot alone, agreed on brooks and for who jonah hill.

I thought Nolte was fantastic, but I haven't seen the oters.

Dinasztie: Branagh will have to wait as I still have not had the chance to watch the film yet, and I hoping that will change before I get through all of the other four.

Nolte was easily the best. Plummer also fantastic. Brahagh was good, other two are meh.

Plummer or Nolte for me too. I keep hearing people saying stuff like: "Plummer wasn't that good, he didn't do anything out there or special..." and so on. The reason his performance was so great was because he took a role that at first glance seems total oscar bait: father dying from cancer, also happens to be gay, came out at age 75, tries to maintain relationship with son. Plummer, however, never panders in the role at all, he plays it completely straight, 100% believable, he takes a bundle of cliches and makes a real man. That, for me, is a great performance.

Kenneth Branagh looks psychotic in that picture lol haha =D

Branagh has to win this! Plummer was very underwhelming and Beginners is such a boring, uninteresting film. Jonah Hill should get 1 Brennan because he did absolutely nothing!

Plummer should hands down take this.

I guess von Sydow would be my second choice, but basically nobody comes close to Christopher Plummer. He's quite great.
