I will take a guess at what you will do with 1928 Louis, I reckon you will not just do 1928 you will do the years before that in one lineup as well, like I reckon Lon Chaney and Max Schreck might appear =D.

1. Bogart
2. Lorre
3. Stewart
4. Jouvet
5. Morgan

Pre-1928 Lead Lineup
Max Schreck in Nosferatu (I know you've given your rating & thoughts previously for his performance, but I would like to see a more in-depth analysis)
Lon Chaney in The Phantom Of The Opera
Charlie Chaplin in The Kid/The Gold Rush
Buster Keaton in The General
Albert Dieudonne in Napoleon
Conrad Veidt in The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari

For 1928, Conrad Veidt in The Man Who Laughs is all I fervently desire to see reviewed.

GDSAO & RatedRStar: What are your predictions for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and the Palme D'or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Mine are:
Palme D'or: Youth (alt. The Lobster)
Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey in The Sea Of Trees (alt. Michael Fassbender in Macbeth)
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett in Carol (Alt. Marion Cotillard in Macbeth, although she has had a lot of bad luck when it comes to Cannes)
Best Director: Justin Kurzel for Macbeth (Alt. Denis Villeneuve for Sicario)

Luke Higham said...

Louis: Your Thoughts on the latest episode of Game Of Thrones.

Reviews for Mad Max: Fury Road have been Ecstatic so far, Can't Wait.

Luke Higham said...

GDSAO and RatedRStar: If Louis's going to do a Pre-1928 Lead Lineup, what would your suggestions be.

RatedRStar said...

@Luke: Tom Hardys year, I think so =D.

Palme D'or: The Lobster
Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey - Sea Of Trees
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett - Carol
Best Director: Justin Kurzel - Macbeth

Pre 1928 lineup is almost the same

Max Schreck - Nosferatu
Lon Chaney - The Phantom Of The Opera
Conrad Veidt - The Man Who Laughs
Buster Keaton - Steamboat Bill Jr.
Buster Keaton - The General
Gustav Fröhlich - Metropolis
Albert Dieudonné - Napolean
Ivor Novello - The Lodger
Charlie Chaplin - The Gold Rush/The Kid

There is plenty for Bonus reviews too Louis =D.

How the hell did Jason Watkins win the Bafta for Best Actor?????, for an insanely mannered performance.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: It surely is a guarantee now that it's Tom Hardy's year for the second time in a row.

I was pretty disappointed that Nesbitt didn't win, as well as being a bit surprised by Sherlock's win over Game Of Thrones.

I think The Lobster will win the Palme D'or since it's the kind of film the Coen Brothers would undoubtedly champion.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: Also, Veidt is '28 instead of Pre-1928 by Louis's rules for The Man Who Laughs.

RatedRStar said...

The Lobster is number 1 on some betting sites to win, but then again, Jason Watkins was like last of the four nominees to win in the betting and he still won so bah, Nesbitt should have won.

I imagine many GOT fans dont watch the Baftas and although I do like Sherlock, GOT is in a different league, although they have every right not to watch it after this years mostly shit winners, Marvellous was the only one I was happy went away with something.

RatedRStar said...

Ah ok fair enough on Veidt.

RatedRStar said...

My reaction to Jason Watkins beating Benedict Cumberbatch, James Nesbitt and Toby Jone was the same reaction James Mason had when he lost for The Verdict, utter confusion.

JackiBoyz said...

@Luke and RatedRStar: Who would be your winner for Best Actor at the Bafta tv awards from 2000 to 2015?

GetDonaldSutherlandAnOscar said...

@RatedRStar: How is Toby Jones in Marvellous, is he marvellous lol

GetDonaldSutherlandAnOscar said...

@Luke: Same as RatedRStar for pre-1928, really.

Luke Higham said...

JackiBoyz & RatedRStar: I do hate it, when BAFTA can't recognise International talent in British Shows, with Frances O'Connor in The Missing being an example.

RatedRStar said...

@Luke: A lot of our choices are similar =D.

RatedRStar said...

I have a wet dream, to see Ben Whishaw on Game Of Thrones =D.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: Which character from Game Of Thrones (Dead or Alive) Would you have Whishaw play. Or even, what character, would he be perfectly cast as.

RatedRStar said...

@Luke: It is really tricky because I love all of the main characters pretty much, and it would have to be a main cast member, I think I would have him as Theon Greyjoy/Reek, although I tnink Alfie Allen is very good.

I possibly could have said Doran Martell, but I think Louis is right with the comparisons between Siddig and Raul Julia, he really does remind me of him so I cant take him out =D.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar & JackiBoyz: My disappointment for Nesbitt will be nothing compared to Mark Rylance not winning the Bafta next year for Wolf Hall.

RatedRStar said...

@Luke: You reckon he will get nominated for definite?

100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes for the new Mad Max, Louis what are your thoughts on that =D.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: If he doesn't, there's no fucking justice in the world.

=) 5 Star reviews from Empire and Total Film Magazine.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: I'm 90% certain on Rylance being nominated.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: Steamboat Bill Jr. is '28.

RatedRStar said...

@Luke: Ah okk, would you say Bloody Sunday is a tv film or a film, since it was at Sundance, looks like a film, but was nominated at the Bafta tv awards?

RatedRStar said...

It was directed by Greengrass, reviewed by Roger Ebert as well, I mean, I am very tempted to suggest this Nesbitt for a winning request at somepoint (I am watching it on YouTube)

GetDonaldSutherlandAnOscar said...

Jackiboyz: For me,

2000: Timothy Spall - Shooting the Past
2001: Michael Gambon - Longitude
2002: Michael Gambon - Perfect Strangers
2003: Kenneth Branagh - Conspiracy
2004: David Morissey - State Of Play
2005: Mark Strong - The Long Firm
2006: Haven't seen any of them
2007: Jim Broadbent - Longford
2008: Tom Hardy - Stuart: A Life Backwards
2009: Ben Whishaw - Criminal Justice
2010: John Hurt - An Englishman In New York
2011: Haven't seen any
2012: Joseph Gilgun - This is England 88
2013: Ben Whishaw - The Hollow Crown
2014: Sean Harris - Southcliffe
2015: James Nesbitt - The Missing

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: It first premiered at Sundance, but was then shown on television, before being given a theatrical release so it qualifies as a TV Film in my book.

RatedRStar said...

@Donald: But Aiden Gillen =( lol

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: Don't forget about the TV Idea, that we conversed on a month ago.

Louis Morgan said...

Luke:

A very good episode and I have a feeling the last three if not the last five are going to be rather explosive. I felt every storyline worked here even my least favorite Daenerys. Although I hope the show won't keep trying to say she's this great inspirational figure anymore. She's not even qualified to run a taco bell. If a poor guy's cash register ran short she'd just say "burn him". Although I do think last episode's death was a bit shame. As for the others love the build up with Stannis here, particularly the little moment between Davos and Shireen. Not to be left in the dust the same can go for the Boltons who have finally been given their moment which is just as horrifying, while being very darkly comic, as usual. Not to forget, Allen and Turner were both great in the closest we've come so family reunion. To top it all off that final sequence with Tyrion and Jorah was superb.

RatedRStar:

Well it appears the trailers have not been lying.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Yeah, Stannis is really interesting this season. I guess the writers got over their weird hatred for him from the previous seasons.
