Whats with the American Sniper love, whyyyy it wasnt that good at all, and wow I was right all along that Jake would do a Daniel Bruhl, I FUCKING KNEW IT.
Bradley Cooper was not a nice surprise, Fiennes, Oyelowo and Jake were all better than him, there were 3 actors David Oyelowo, the man who Louis Morgan thought was going to win the fucking thing has been snubbed, how has Carell been nominated, somebody fucking tell me that they happy that Carell was nominated somebody TELL MEEEE.
Yeah its like the Academy just wanted to troll Selma so badly, total BS
@RatedRStar:
I agree that Fiennes, Oyelowo and Jake were all better, but I can't get all that mad at Cooper's nomination when Carell also got in as well. Carell over Jake, that is something to really get mad at
- It seems like it would have perhaps been less insulting to snub Selma entirely since its Best Picture screams of recognition due to "importance" only.
- I liked American Sniper but that was a bit much. I mean editing, come on!
- I guess never bet against Bennett Miller for the academy.
- A surprise amount of Inherent Vice love actually.
- Cotillard! I can't complain about that one bit.
- How about a Grand Budapest Hotel Upset, I'd be all for that.
2014 Best Supporting Actor is good and expected, 2014 Best Actor could have been the greatest in history and now its not going to be cause of that stupid penguin nosed CUNT.
A Grand Budapest upset indeed would be sweet. Though I still haven't seen Birdman or Boyhood so I shouldn't really comment I that department. However something just registered for me: They nominated the bejesus out of Foxcatcher but it didn't receive a best picture nod. Complete opposite of Selma. What the actual fuck?
I had not noticed that. I guess the lone director nod is still possible, although seemingly kinda ridiculous, I guess watch out the next time a Stephen Daldry film comes out.
Glad to see Emma Stone nominated she was really good surprisingly. I don't mind cooper being nominated that much. You could do worse. But Carell over Oyelowo and Gyllenhaal? Seriously? It's not the first time the academy awarded someone for playing against type. It's like they don't care how good the performance is as long as the actor tries to do something different.
Ok I accept Cooper, Cooper was good, if Carell wasnt nominated, then this would have been the greatest, ya folla, THE GREATEST, UP THERE WITH 1962, 1939 AND 2013, and now thats not gonna happen, and it shouldnt happen.
Cooper doesn't bother me much, even though there not 5's for me, I am happy to see Redmayne & Cumberbatch get reviewed. but once again, the academy are on the verge of ruining my dreams of seeing reviews for all 5 star performances this year. Happy for Inherent Vice, but still nowhere satisfied by the academy's decisions.
Well I can't complain too much since they nominated Cotillard, against all odds.
I get Oyelowo's snub to an extent, hey maybe they just didn't like Selma much. But Jake's snub is unfortunate. Carrell was ok, and Cooper was actually very good, but Oyelowo and Gyllenhal were miles better.
at least there is something awesome, Jake and David will still be reviewed,
Louis you cannot give Steve Carell, a higher score than 3.5 you just cant =D not this time, this isnt a Joaquin Phoenix in The Master, where I got it wrong, this time I have not got it wrong. You cant be happy with Oyelowo being snubbed surely Louis, you picked him to win lol.
RatedRStar: Well my thoughts on the lead actor race are as followed XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
1. Simmons 2. Norton 3. Hawke 4. Ruffalo 5. Duvall Super glad for Cotillard's nomination, she was so touching. Also glad for Cooper he was great. But I'm super pissed about Gone Girl getting snubbed for Picture and Screenplay, Jake Gyllenhaal and David Oyelowo, I mean come on.
I am happy we, on this wonderful lovely epic blog, full of intelligent people who know about films, and the Oscars, better than anyone can come together =D.
Also, I know no one asked, but here are the 10 alternates I'd like to see for Best Actor:
Jake Gyllenhaal Brendan Gleeson Ralph Fiennes Joaquin Phoenix Andy Serkis Tom Hardy Ben Affleck David Oyelowo Guy Pearce Philip Seymour Hoffman
That would cover all my fives. I know not everyone is as enthusiastic about Serkis or Affleck as me so I won't mind if one of them is switched for McConaughey, also I know Gyllenhaal has a requested review for Enemy.
My Alternates are Jake Gyllenhaal in Enemy & Nightcrawler (One Long Post) Tom Hardy in Locke Brendan Gleeson in Calvary Philip Seymour Hoffman in A Most Wanted Man Guy Pearce in The Rover David Oyelowo in Selma Joaquin Phoenix in Inherent Vice Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar Timothy Spall in Mr Turner Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel Nicolas Cage in Joe If he happens to extend by one to three and finds these worthy. Andy Serkis in Dawn of The Planet of The Apes Channing Tatum in Foxcatcher Christoph Waltz in The Zero Theorem
My Alternates for Supporting are Michael Fassbender in Frank Richard Armitage in The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies Toby Kebbell in Dawn of The Planet of The Apes Josh Brolin in Inherent Vice Gary Poulter in Joe Bonus Review Kiefer Sutherland in Pompeii
If either Corden or Gandolfini make it in, I'd rather have Corden, since Louis did honour Gandolfini last year for Enough Said.
Best Picture, Birdman Best Director, Inarritu or Linklater (Anderson would be cool as well) Best Actor, Keaton (most definitely, I still love Redmayne and I like the other nominees to varying extents, but I am now rooting for Keaton with all my soul) Best Actress, Moore or Cotillard Best Supporting Actor, Hawke or Norton Best Supporting Actress, Stone (upon re-watch I've bumped Knightley down to a 4) Best Adapted Screenplay, Inherent Vice (only one not guilty of category fraud) Best Original Screenplay, Birdman
GDSAO: My Hopes are Best Picture: Anything but Boyhood Best Actor: Anyone but Carell Best Actress: Cotillard Hands Down, although an overdue win for Moore would satisfy me as well. Best Supporting Actor: Don't mind, who wins, it's a great lineup, although Simmons is my preference. Best Supporting Actress: Emma Stone Best Adapted Screenplay: Inherent Vice or Whiplash Best Original Screenplay: Either Birdman, Nightcrawler and The Grand Budapest Hotel
Picture: Selma Driector: Inarritu Actor: Keaton Actress: Pike, but I haven't seen Moore or Cotillard yet Supporting Actor: Hawke Supporting Actress: Ugh, I don't know. Stone or Arquette, I guess? Not enthused with that lineup at all. Adapted Screenplay: Inherent Vice Original Screenplay: Grand Budapest Hotel
I'm so pissed about Gone Girl's many snubs. Anyway, although I love Cotillard, I'm rooting for Pike who was brilliant. kook160, since you've seen Wild, how is Laura Dern?
Robert: Sure thing I can think two right off the top of my head.
Miyavi - 2(I might be being a bit generous here actually. Anyway for the most part he attempts to be menacing, but he's no Sessue Hayakawa to say the least. He makes no visceral impact with his performance and is severely lacking in creating the needed threat for the POW camp scenes. When he alters his performance a little though he falters as well. This is especially true for when he tells Zamperini to talk to his family and does that bizarre imitation that comes off as more weird than anything else. In addition to this though when he not being an attempted sadist he's just kinda bland such as the scene where he's saying goodbye to his friends. The worst though is the don't look at me final version as Miyavi fails to find any of the power of that moment and is simply inadequate)
Wilkinson - Selma - 2.5(Well Wilkinson does not disappear into LBJ, but he also is not an over the top caricature. His scenes I actually thinking are a weaker element in the film simply because they are so repetitive and Wilkinson is not able to make up for that with his performance. He does the southern drawl well enough, although not brilliantly. He's not bad but he's really not much of anything either.)
Robert: Thanks for reminding me about Waltz. I kinda wanted to watch Gone Girl again relatively soon so I'll give my thoughts on Affleck then.
Waltz - 2.5(I actually did not mind his being wacky Walter who is constantly scheming and peddling "his" art anywhere he can. The reason being its an over the top performance but in these scenes Big Eyes is an over the top comedy. I thought he was enjoyable enough and fit into the presumed style of the film even if it definitely is a particularly self-indulgent performance for Waltz. It wasn't great but I would say not bad. Then comes the third of the film where tones clash very badly and the film tries to turn Walter into an evil psychopath. Waltz stumbles badly as he plays these scenes kinda trying to be menacing while kinda being funny and it just does not work at all. It almost seems in these scenes like Burton was sending him some very mixed signals because Waltz is all over the place, and not in a good way. The scene where he tries to kill Margaret and her daughter is horrible for Waltz, and the other moments where Walter is suppose to be evil in a serious way all just come off horribly. I do wonder if the rumors about a cutting are true as the tonally confused scenes give Adams her Oscar scenes, and maybe originally it did just stay more comic, therefore beneficial for Waltz, throughout)
Luke: Might as well save on Perry for a minute as well.
Thewlis - 4(I wish he'd do more of this sorta thing and less I'm a respectable actor playing a nothing part in a prestige picture like his performance in Theory of Everything. This actually stresses his talent in anyway. His character is pure Gilliam as he plays a man who states much exposition while seeming to seem a bit off. Thewlis is quite good at that giving that bright smile that's endearing but just something about it suggests more than a few screws loose in the man. He adds a great bit of character to the proceedings and even is a bit moving as he subtly alludes that his character's only friend is probably Waltz's character.)
Nighy - 4(On retrospect I think Paddy Considine probably gave my favorite performance as he does a whole lot in such an unassuming performance. I still like Nighy who's always an interesting performer to say the very least. He's good in Pride in his manner that is somewhat off that effectively alludes to his revelation later on in the film. He's got the comic timing you'd expect from him particularly in his final line in the film, but also brings a genuine heart such when he talks about his brother as well as the scene where he explains his personal revelation)
Labeouf - 4(Best performance in Fury goes easily to him which I will admit to being genuine surprised by. I think Labeouf could perhaps have fallen into the caricatures of Pena and Bernthal but he never does. Labeouf's face is great here showing the perpetually haunted state of his man, and is best at showing the wear of the battles these men have fought. Not only that Labeouf brings so much conviction and passion in the scenes where he quotes scripture he gives the final battle the dramatic weight it sorely needs.)
If there were to be upsets: Picture - Birdman Director - Wes Anderson Actor - Eddie Redmayne Actress - Marion Cotillard Supp Actor - Ethan Hawke Supp Actress - Emma Stone
Louis: On Spall, Since you don't like to reveal much, I take it, that's a maybe but likely.
My Top 5 are Macbeth The Revenant The Hateful Eight Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spectre
Lastly, I saw Moulin Rouge for the first time last night, I liked it just fine, although the first 28 minutes were a bit too much, so I would like to ask your thoughts on the songs.
I can't muster much enthusiasm for The Hateful Eight, even though I'm a Tarantino fan. I'm sure it'll be a good film, it's just I was really hoping for something else from the man, if that makes any sense.
GDSAO: It's my number 3 purely because Tarantino's name is on it, so I will of course have a great interest in anything he does, If I were to change it, I would place Silence in that spot instead.
Anonymous: I liked Kidman quite well, although she's a 3.5 for me, but I fucking loved McGregor's performance as Christian, his Vocal Performances were astounding in my opinion and I loved his rendition of Come What May during the finale, I'm actually gonna go ahead and say that Come What May is my favourite song in any Musical to date. The fact that it didn't win Best Original Song is a disgrace, even though I'm a massive fan of Enya's May It Be. But anyway, McGregor's a very high 4.5 and I would've given him a 5, if the first 28 minutes were a bit more subtle, so in conclusion, I think it's a career best for McGregor.
Since the nominations have been announced, I would like to know everyone's predictions on how many 5s Louis will give for 2014 Lead & Supporting, this also includes the alternates, not just the nominees.
Is Joe only worth a watch because of Gary Poulter, or is it a good film? How's Cage in it? I mean, I'll most likely watch it anyway cause I'm interested, I'd just appreciate your opinions. I read the story of Poulter, it's a rather sad one I must say. Also, I just watched Boyhood with the girlfriend, we were both kinda underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, but we both found it overly long and it actually didn't really have anything interesting to say. The best scenes were the ones with Hawke in it. Also, we both thought it should have ended at that really cheesy "drivin' on the highway of life, you get it?" shot, instead it went on for 10 more absolutely unnecessary minutes about Mason Jr. in college. It was kinda like with Lincoln back then. Sorry for the long post.
Lezlie: I highly recommend it for Poulter, who was flat out amazing & Cage who gave his best performance to date, better than Bad Lieutenant and Leaving Las Vegas and they're both 5s for me and is the only film I've seen this year with two.
Of the nominations, I was bummed about Gyllenhaal and LEGO missing… but hey, PTA got nodded so all is (almost) good. And may I say, I'm delighted "Gone Girl" underwhelmed. Really didn't like it much on retrospect.
1. Simmons 2. Norton 3. Ruffalo 4. Hawke 5. Duvall (who was legitimately good and doesn't deserve the hate)
Also, yes, Lezlie, "Joe" is worth the watch. Cage is great, Sheridan excellent, and it has my #13 of all time in Supporting Actor.
Anonymous: Psifonian, Moviefilm and probably Louis are the only ones. I know Louis hasn't given his review yet, but he liked Foxcatcher more than most on the blog, when he gave his thoughts back a month ago, so I'll not be surprised if Carell gets a 4.5. I just personally preferred Tatum and Ruffalo.
Carell was just so... eh. I didn't hate him like RatedRStar, but he felt sort of obvious in his performance. Reminded me of Tucci in The Lovely Bones, albeit not as bad.
I liked Carell most of the time. I thought he was too mannered in his first scene and not very convincing. I was also not sure what to think about his last scene. I would probably give him a 4. If it wasn't for those scenes I might have given him a 4.5.

FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU ACADEMY
David, Jake both snubbed for Carell and Cooper, FUCK RIGHT OFF.
Man what a load of horseshit, snubbing Jake and Selma and Oyelowo.
Still, there are some nice surprises, including the love for Grand Budapest Hotel and Marion Cotillard and Bradley Cooper
Whats with the American Sniper love, whyyyy it wasnt that good at all, and wow I was right all along that Jake would do a Daniel Bruhl, I FUCKING KNEW IT.
I was really suprised by all the Foxcatcher love.
Utterly, Utterly Pissed, Academy, you deserve one huge middle finger, Thanks for Marion though.
Fucking hell, I dont mind Cooper getting in, but Carell over Jake was utter, utter bullshit
Louis: I know you, don't want to come to this, but please give us 15 alternate reviews, I'm fucking begging you
Also, nominating Selma for best picture but not even director, screenplay or at least Oyelowo is nonsense.

Well I guess one thing we can all be glad about is Cotillard getting nominated.
But I still don't understand how the Academy can do something so right, and then turn right around and fuck up the Best Actor category
2014 Best Supporting Actor is good and expected, 2014 Best Actor could have been the greatest in history and now its not going to be cause of that stupid penguin nosed CUNT.

2)J.K Simmons
3)Robert Duvall
4)Mark Ruffalo
5)Edward Norton
I feel like Pete from Shaun Of The Dead

Great lineup, shame with Lead though.
at least there is something awesome, Jake and David will still be reviewed,
Louis you cannot give Steve Carell, a higher score than 3.5 you just cant =D not this time, this isnt a Joaquin Phoenix in The Master, where I got it wrong, this time I have not got it wrong. You cant be happy with Oyelowo being snubbed surely Louis, you picked him to win lol.
Anyway I'm glad supporting turned out to be predictable.

I'll have to see The Judge, might change my rankings.
Lou Bloom is not pleased, nor is MLK, they snubbed Oyelowo on Martin Luther King's birthday, so disrespectful lol

Super glad for Cotillard's nomination, she was so touching. Also glad for Cooper he was great.
But I'm super pissed about Gone Girl getting snubbed for Picture and Screenplay, Jake Gyllenhaal and David Oyelowo, I mean come on.
Ok everyone lets look at the postives
Cotillard was nominated that's great.
2014 has been an amazing year for films.
Nightcrawler and Selma were still recognised in categories
Eddie, Benedict, and Keaton and too a lesser extent Cooper were still nominated
Lego Movies snub is silly but The Tale of Princess Kaguya is a fine replacement.
Ya know what, I dont care, I am still gonna destroy Carell when it comes time for his review.
I am happy we, on this wonderful lovely epic blog, full of intelligent people who know about films, and the Oscars, better than anyone can come together =D.
Also, I know no one asked, but here are the 10 alternates I'd like to see for Best Actor:
Jake Gyllenhaal
Brendan Gleeson
Ralph Fiennes
Joaquin Phoenix
Andy Serkis
Tom Hardy
Ben Affleck
David Oyelowo
Guy Pearce
Philip Seymour Hoffman
That would cover all my fives. I know not everyone is as enthusiastic about Serkis or Affleck as me so I won't mind if one of them is switched for McConaughey, also I know Gyllenhaal has a requested review for Enemy.
I am disapointed that Carell has been recognized, also why has Laura Dern been nominated for doing nothing.
1)J.K Simmons
2)Edward Norton
3)Robert Duvall
4)Ethan Hawke
5)Mark Ruffalo
Yeah Selma was snubbed big time...
1. Simmons
2. Norton
3. Duvall
4. Hawke
5. Ruffalo
My Alternates are
Jake Gyllenhaal in Enemy & Nightcrawler (One Long Post)
Tom Hardy in Locke
Brendan Gleeson in Calvary
Philip Seymour Hoffman in A Most Wanted Man
Guy Pearce in The Rover
David Oyelowo in Selma
Joaquin Phoenix in Inherent Vice
Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar
Timothy Spall in Mr Turner
Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel
Nicolas Cage in Joe
If he happens to extend by one to three and finds these worthy.
Andy Serkis in Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
Channing Tatum in Foxcatcher
Christoph Waltz in The Zero Theorem
I think Affleck's getting a 4 from Louis.
I am been watching some amazing Anime recently, that should calm me down........for now.
Louis: You've placed Carell in the labels beside the other supporting nominees.
Luke: Uh oh you caught a leftover from my attempt to get this post out as soon as possible.
My Alternates for Supporting are
Michael Fassbender in Frank
Richard Armitage in The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies
Toby Kebbell in Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
Josh Brolin in Inherent Vice
Gary Poulter in Joe
Bonus Review
Kiefer Sutherland in Pompeii
If either Corden or Gandolfini make it in, I'd rather have Corden, since Louis did honour Gandolfini last year for Enough Said.
Psifonian, you happy, you must have got sexual pleasure from seeing Steve Carell nominated in the so called "inches from perfect film"
I'm actually going to change my official request away from Kiefer Sutherland to Toby Kebbell.
Who's everyone rooting for now?
For me:
Best Picture, Birdman
Best Director, Inarritu or Linklater (Anderson would be cool as well)
Best Actor, Keaton (most definitely, I still love Redmayne and I like the other nominees to varying extents, but I am now rooting for Keaton with all my soul)
Best Actress, Moore or Cotillard
Best Supporting Actor, Hawke or Norton
Best Supporting Actress, Stone (upon re-watch I've bumped Knightley down to a 4)
Best Adapted Screenplay, Inherent Vice (only one not guilty of category fraud)
Best Original Screenplay, Birdman
I am looking for someone to defend Carells nomination in anyway just so I can fight them.
Koook160: Thank you, although I was looking forward to the Sutherland review, but Shit Happens!
GDSAO: My Hopes are
Best Picture: Anything but Boyhood
Best Actor: Anyone but Carell
Best Actress: Cotillard Hands Down, although an overdue win for Moore would satisfy me as well.
Best Supporting Actor: Don't mind, who wins, it's a great lineup, although Simmons is my preference.
Best Supporting Actress: Emma Stone
Best Adapted Screenplay: Inherent Vice or Whiplash
Best Original Screenplay: Either Birdman, Nightcrawler and The Grand Budapest Hotel
Best Director: Anderson or Inarritu, leaning towards the latter.
Robert: Ah man I'm sure Sutherland would have been winner too.......
GetDonaldSutherlandAnOscar:
Picture: Birdman (although a Budapest win would also be great)
Direction: Iñárritu (although would one not mind Anderson one bit)
Actress: Cotillard (Moore will make a fine winner though)
Supporting Actress: Stone
Adapted Screenplay: Inherent Vice or Whiplash
Original Screenplay: As long as its not Boyhood.
My hopes:
Picture: Selma
Driector: Inarritu
Actor: Keaton
Actress: Pike, but I haven't seen Moore or Cotillard yet
Supporting Actor: Hawke
Supporting Actress: Ugh, I don't know. Stone or Arquette, I guess? Not enthused with that lineup at all.
Adapted Screenplay: Inherent Vice
Original Screenplay: Grand Budapest Hotel
I'm so pissed about Gone Girl's many snubs. Anyway, although I love Cotillard, I'm rooting for Pike who was brilliant. kook160, since you've seen Wild, how is Laura Dern?
Dern was fine, probably the best thing about it. I prefer her in The Fault in Our Stars, to be honest.
Pike would be a worthy winner as well.
Hey Louis, any performances you were saving thoughts on that you'd be willing to share thoughts on now that the nominations have been announced?
Louis: Plus ratings.
Robert: Sure thing I can think two right off the top of my head.
Miyavi - 2(I might be being a bit generous here actually. Anyway for the most part he attempts to be menacing, but he's no Sessue Hayakawa to say the least. What about Waltz in Big Eyes, Spall in Mr. Turner, and Affleck in Gone Girl?
Not Spall Please
Louis: Thewlis, Nighy & Labeouf
Room needs to made for alternate, Luke. If he's a 4.5, why not just share the thoughts?
Koook160: I could live with that, but if he's a 5, no way.
Louis: Also Tyler Perry
1. Simmons
2. Norton
3. Duvall
4. Ruffalo
5. Hawke
Robert: Thanks for reminding me about Waltz. I kinda wanted to watch Gone Girl again relatively soon so I'll give my thoughts on Affleck then.

In that case, save Corden for Supporting since you feel he belongs there. I would love to see him reviewed.
If there were to be upsets:
Picture - Birdman
Director - Wes Anderson
Actor - Eddie Redmayne
Actress - Marion Cotillard
Supp Actor - Ethan Hawke
Supp Actress - Emma Stone
I saw Mr. Turner last night, I hate to say it but I don't think I'd give Spall higher than a 4.
Louis: So are you saving Spall.
KoooK160: I'd be very happy to see Corden reviewed, as long as Armitage, Brolin and Poulter are reviewed as well.
Louis: Your top 5 most anticipated films of 2015.
1. Spectre
2. Silence
3. Queen of the Desert
4. The Revenant (Hoping Birdman has indicated a change for Iñárritu)
5. Triple Nine
Louis: On Spall, Since you don't like to reveal much, I take it, that's a maybe but likely.
My Top 5 are
Macbeth
The Revenant
The Hateful Eight
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Spectre
@luke: what did you think of Kidman and McGregor? I myself loved them.
(I actually would give McGregor a 5)
1. Norton
2. Simmons.
3. Hawke
4. Duvall
5. Ruffalo
KoooK160, Kevin and anyone else: Your ratings & thoughts on David Oyelowo in Selma.
Since the nominations have been announced, I would like to know everyone's predictions on how many 5s Louis will give for 2014 Lead & Supporting, this also includes the alternates, not just the nominees.
1. J.K. Simmons
2. Ethan Hawke
3. Edward Norton
4. Robert Duvall
5. Mark Ruffalo
Guys!
1) J.K. Simmons
2) Ethan Hawke
3) Robert Duvall
4) Edward Norton
5) Mark Ruffalo
Of the nominations, I was bummed about Gyllenhaal and LEGO missing… but hey, PTA got nodded so all is (almost) good. And may I say, I'm delighted "Gone Girl" underwhelmed. Really didn't like it much on retrospect.
1. Simmons
2. Norton
3. Ruffalo
4. Hawke
5. Duvall (who was legitimately good and doesn't deserve the hate)
Also, yes, Lezlie, "Joe" is worth the watch. Cage is great, Sheridan excellent, and it has my #13 of all time in Supporting Actor.
I've been depressed all day over LEGO not getting in. The PTA screenplay nod was nice, though.
1. Simmons
2. Norton
3. Hawke
4. Duvall
5. Ruffalo
My two favorite movies of 2014, "Gone Girl" and "Nightcrawler", got one nomination each. Sh*t. They were simply brilliant movies.
Did nobody appreciate Carell's performance?
Anonymous: Psifonian, Moviefilm and probably Louis are the only ones.
I know Louis hasn't given his review yet, but he liked Foxcatcher more than most on the blog, when he gave his thoughts back a month ago, so I'll not be surprised if Carell gets a 4.5. I just personally preferred Tatum and Ruffalo.
I liked Carell, but Tatum was better and I wouldn't nominate either over Gyllenhaal.
