Going back to Phoenix/Rains, I will keep my comments on those two to myself from now on =), except, the rant that I promised to do on 1946 on Harold Russell, I will still do that purely because I feel strongly about it lol.

Well no one holds a candle to Hackman that's for damn sure.

Haters can hate, but "Alien 3" is brilliant and McGann's performance is one of the best portrayals of unhinged madness ever committed to celluloid. People need to seek out the assembly cut to see what he truly did.

Alien 3 is extremely underappreciated, and I am so glad you chosen to review McGann. And please view the Assembly Cut of the film, as it is so much better than the Original Cut. And McGann also gets to do more in the Assembly Cut.

Good man, Kevin. *cheers*

Huh. Maybe I'll check out the Assembly cut. It seems to be more well-regarded anyway.

Psifonian said...

Robert,

Not only is the assembly cut a better film than the theatrical, I personally find it to be a better film than "Aliens." Not saying "Aliens" is bad, as it is a perfectly crafted film, but it lacks the gravitas and weight of the first film, which the third brings back in the best possible way. Weaver's performance in "Alien 3" is also her best performance to date. The effects are dodgy, but that's less to do with the product and more to do with the fact that Fincher was denied funding to complete them in post. But it should be viewed for any "Alien" fan.

I haven't seen any of them, to be honest. Not all the way through, at least. I saw Prometheus and absolutely loathed every minute of it.

Psifonian said...

Wow. That's . . . shocking, to say the least. "Alien" is my #8 of all time and boasts my all-time favorite film ensemble.

What would be your top 10 films, Psifonian?

1. There Will Be Blood (Anderson, 2007)
2. The Thin Red Line (Malick, 1998)
3. Amadeus (Forman, 1984)
4. Grave of the Fireflies (Takahata, 1988)
5. My Neighbor Totoro (Miyazaki, 1988)
6. Goodfellas (Scorsese, 1990)

At least we have 2 choices in common.

Louis, what rating would you give Wahlberg in Lone Survivor?

Matt Mustin said...

You know, I just rewatched Unforgiven a few weeks ago and wasn't that impressed with Harris. He makes an impact when he first appears, but most of the time he's overshadowed by Hackman. Plus, whenever he's not onscreen, I didn't miss him. But that's me.
