Alternate Best Actor 1978: Results

5. Christopher Reeve in Superman- Reeve has some weaknesses in his performance but it is hard to think of an actor more fitting for the role of Superman.

Best Scene: Superman sees that he has failed.

Best Scene: Max confronts his worthless driver.
3. Anthony Hopkins in Magic- Hopkins is quite effective in portraying all acts of a man and his puppet who he is a little too friendly with.

Best Scene: Corky tries not to use Fats for five minutes.
2. Donald Pleasence in Halloween- Pleasence gives a great performance that adds so effectively to the atmosphere of dread found in his film.

Best Scene: Dr. Loomis describes Micheal Myers.

nice to see Gary Busey stay in the top 5, I think he is quite a sweet guy deep down lol (I watched him on The Celebrity Apprentice lol)

RatedRStar: You've really got to stop assessing actors based on how you feel about them personally.

Anonymous: I almost shot you a nasty comment until I reread the comment because I thought you said obsessing. Now I completely agree with you.

I respectfully disagree, I think liking a performance is one thing but if you like the actor him/herself as well as the performance then it aids it because it makes me think "yay an actor/actress I like as a person is giving a great performance and that's sweettt"

I think it also helps (in my opinion) if I feel sorry for the actor like a Montgomery Clift or a James Mason.

On topic, Louis, I am BEGGING you to review John Vernon in Animal House. To me, it's a criminally underrated comedic performance.

...Anthony Perkins in Les Mis? (Yeah I know he's ineligible but I can try :P)

Also, 1971 will be my choice for year, with Attenborough in "10 Rillington Place" as performance.

Actually, Michael McCarthy brings up an interesting idea. You should review more TV movie/miniseries performances. Perkins in Les Mis, as he's suggested, but also people like Guiness in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, etc.

Anonymous: I think I will have to do a tv movie performance special sometime down the road.

Michael Patison said...

Psifonian, he's already done 1971 Lead. I guess you could request the performance as something for him to watch and review and add to the reviews.

Davis is lower than Travolta? What?
