Honestly? One of the strongest lineups I've ever seen on this blog. I'll give predictions on the first review. My personal ranking would be the following (haven't seen Mads). All fives except for Fassbender who I got at 4.

Lucas: Okay, that's gonna be a very entertaining write-up.
Louis: If Mirror And The Light is as strong as its predecessor, will you be doing the Rylance write-up that you've held off doing since seeing Wolf Hall.
Tony:
The trailer neither blew me away or made me concerned, given it just showed mainly just some random action beats, that looked fine.
Matt:
Either it will be fun and dumb, or just dumb. Looks like it could be the former, as the cast certainly looks likeable enough, and the effects look decent.

Clarke - 4.5(As previously noted in Oppenheimer he's great at playing the courtroom note bringing such a powerful and incisive presence. Although he tonally changes it a bit, since here he's a protagonist character however Clarke is just as effective in delivering this precise direct manner to the performance that is just so engaging in itself. Every scene of cross examination is that much better because Clarke makes each and every line sing in granting a sense of the intelligence of his character and persuasiveness of his arguments. We get more thought in terms of who he is than we got with Roger Robb, where Clarke is terrific by underplaying but internalizes the character's degree of conflict with the unfortunate role he has to play within the court. Clarke importantly avoids ever doing overt grandstanding, particularly when I'd say the final defense of the Queeg scene feels like a much harder sell with the period context in this version. Regardless Clarke manages to sell it within his own performance by just playing it as bluntly real without any sense of self-righteousness instead presenting as a truth as part of a duty in the character more than anything.)
Sargaard - 4.5(If the director wasn't so adamant about being staid I might've gotten even more out of the performance, although he still is very good within the restrictive style of the film. Sarsgaard is quite good though by playing the role with a lack of constant misery despite the character having Alzheimers. I think the pivotal moments are when he lashes out specifically in anguish or anger, which are powerfully very naturalistic moments of intense frustration. Sarsgaard though only uses these moments when someone typically is reminding himself of his situation less than his own reflection, showing a man who doesn't want to be constantly reminded just how sick he is constantly. Additionally though he's good in portraying the moment of vacancy along with the moments of cogency where he brings this kind of manner of trying to ease others when they are doing something. Such as when he's with Chastain and he's unable to follow the movie, Sargaard reinforces a pleasant manner where he very specifically isn't trying to force anything due to his illness. This manner makes his interactions with Chastain work by kind of the non-judgment in their interactions between them and basically the comfort as the lack of fixation on their individual pains, instead of their mutual connections.)
Cage - 4.5(Cage very much hearkening to an extreme Cage character, though the extreme here is in just playing the extreme awkwardness which is in his distinctly Cage way. Cage's performance naturally brings in the comedy then in just by being so decidedly unimpressive at all times, that emphasizes the fame by chance, with Cage bringing the right humor into the inability for his growing ego to really match the achievements at any point. Cage succeeds in always being less than and out of sorts at all times. Playing the man in a way just kind of around the rest of the family in his absurdly messy way to begin with before we even approach the dream version of him. The dream of him being funny moments initially by just truly being there in his performance as well but there in a way in which he's out of place in his thereness. His later version Cage brings the right sort of callous intensity that is specific in his way of portraying as very much without reason but entirely malicious at all times. Contrasting that is the emotional mess of the man, that where writing wise I think the film jumps a few steps too quickly, though I do enjoy what Cage delivers within the moments of pathetic emotional distress of these scenes even if imperfectly. I'll give particular credit for his most humane moment in the ending, which is a great scene, that would be great if the film just spent a bit more time with the relationship and led to it with just a bit more time. Regardless though Cage is very moving in his delivery of "I wish this was real '' where he finally brings a bit of modesty and any understanding.)

Wicked certainly looks like a film set in the Wizard of Oz universe...that's all I can say. Didn't really make me dread it nor did it excite me in anyway.
