Speaking of Redmayne, you'll be happy to know he and Jupiter Ascending were nominated for a ton of Razzies.

Meanwhile, I'm pissed they nominated Dakota Johnson for 50 Shades. Say what you will about the film, she was the only good thing.

Anonymous said...

@Robert: I COMPLETELY agree with you about Dakota Johnson. She did her best with a horribly written character and managed to give a good, at times even compelling performance.
Also I'm kind of tired to see them nominating Katherine Heigl every year even when her performance isn't bad (her nomination for One for the Money was deserved but she was actually better than most of the cast of Big Wedding, including De Niro, and yet she was nominated last year).

Robert MacFarlane said...

The Razzies in general are a lazy organization that should have hung it up years ago.

Anonymous said...

@Robert: Who do you think will be nominated tomorrow? For some reason, I don't see them nominating Mirren and McAdams and I think Fonda might sneak in. I also think Michael Keaton might get a surprise nomination but a
I'm not sure.

Robert MacFarlane said...

I have no clue whatsoever. This has been a weird Oscar race. Initially I had a No Guts, No Glory prediction of Jason Mitchell making Supporting Actor for Straight Outta Compton.

Luke Higham said...

Anonymous:
Lead's alot easier to predict, so:
1. Damon (5)
2. DiCaprio (4.5)
3. Fassbender (4)
4. Cranston (4)
5. Redmayne (3/3.5)

Robert MacFarlane said...

Ugh, none of them deserve higher than 3.5. Also, I'd be surprised if Redmayne was anything other than a 2.

Calvin Law said...

Robert: Not a fan of Damon in The Martian? Don't worry I totally get it, I think I'm strangely enamoured with it as a performance. Least I have someone to root for.

Hopefully.

Calvin Law said...

For supporting I predict:

Stallone
Rylance
Elba
Bale
Del Toro

Luke Higham said...

Calvin:
1. Del Toro (5)
2. Rylance (5)
3. Elba (5)
4. Stallone (5)
5. Bale (4)

Though if Hardy managed to get in instead of Bale, which is very unlikely, he'd probably come 2nd or 3rd.

Calvin Law said...

I actually think Louis could go lower for Bale. He gave him a 3.5 for his excellent performance in American Hustle and from what little I've seen of him in The Big Short he's far less impressive in that.

1966: Per Oscarsson - Hunger

Louis: Out of sheer curiosity, what are your ratings for the cast of Mars Attacks?

Michael Patison said...

Louis: Excellent idea putting up all of the requests and making them readily available.

Robert: I agree about Johnson, but let's be honest, we all knew she would get a nomination simply because she was in the movie. The Razzies have indeed become a parody of themselves (I guess that would classify them as a farce. Parody of a parody=farce?), but I still find it funny to glance at the nominations when they come out and see that, yes indeed, Adam Sandler is once again nominated.

Michael Patison said...

Robert: That being said, the scarcity of nominations for Pan is troubling.

Robert MacFarlane said...

I'm really surprised they didn't go for Hedlund. By all accounts his performance in Pan is as much of a WTF as Redmayne in JA.

RatedRStar said...

I will give my final acting predictions for the two categories.

Best Actor
Bryan Cranston - Trumbo
Matt Damon - The Martian
Leonardo DiCaprio - The Revenant
Michael Fassbender - Steve Jobs
Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl

I still dont think Redmayne and Cranston are locks, as I see the films momentum starting to wane a bit, Damon Vs Depp Vs Smith seems likely for the final spot and I think that globe win plus momentum for his film helps Damon, I would like to see Depp take Cranstons place but realistically I dont think that will happen.

Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale - The Big Short
Idris Elba - Beasts Of No Nation
Mark Ruffalo - Spotlight
Mark Rylance - Bridge Of Spies
Sylvester Stallone - Creed

Rylance and Stallone are locks for me, Elba is close but Daniel Bruhl is lurking in this category, fortunately for him I think Michael Shannon will be Daniel Bruhl. Christian Bale is not a lock either but I think with The Big Short doing well I think he will do ok, Tom Hardy and Benicio Del Toro could appear, as I can see lots of people giving number ones to Del Toro despite him being virtually on his own, while Hardy could join The Revenant which will get at least 10 nominations I think so Hardy is 6th for me, Dano has suffered from his film just lacking traction, Ruffalo I can easily see getting in as I see people giving him plenty of 3 and 4th places which might be enough, ITS A BLOODBATH.

Michael McCarthy said...

This reminds me I still have a winning request saved up from 1995 lead, so I request Jeffrey Wright in Basquiat for 1996 lead.

Anonymous said...

I'm starting to believe Stallone is going to win the Oscar, if he gets nominated.

Robert MacFarlane said...

I'm hoping Stallone wins.

Anonymous said...

Robert: I wouldn't mind if he won, although Rylance is my choice.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Rylance isn't sticking with me like I thought he would. In fact, I think Hanks is better in that movie.

RatedRStar said...

Robert: You haven't really enjoyed this Oscar Season have you lol.

Anonymous said...

RatedRStar: Although you have already 5 performances suggested for 1960 bonus rounds, I would suggest these two: Clift in Wild River and Mitchum in Home From The Hill (Critics say this performance is better than his one in The Sundowners, and I kind of preferred it as well).

Anonymous said...

*already have suggested 5 performances

RatedRStar said...

=D of course I will keep them in mind.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: Your fives for 2015.

Robert MacFarlane said...

@RatedRStar: I have unfairly high standards and idiosyncratic tastes. This hasn't been that much different than any other Oscar season for me.

RatedRStar said...

Luke: I will do that at some point later.

The next time I come on will be after the Oscar Nominations are announced,

ladies and gentlemen.....

In the final words of Captain Edmund Blackadder......good luck everyone...

ruthiehenshallfan99:

It's been since I saw it in the theater nevertheless:

Nicholson - 2.5(Recall him not being particularly funny or particularly bad as the slightly off kilter but mostly straight forward president, or doing his best Burt Reynold's? impression as his other character)

As for the rest of the supporting cast I remember everyone else being pretty forgettable or unfunny in trying to find some sort of tone for their performance to try to match the film. To be perfectly honest I recall Tom Jones and Jim Brown actually acquitted themselves the best. Maybe it's because they played it just kind of straight, where the rest tried too hard to be slightly wacky which did not work.

Calvin:

Glad to hear that at the very least you took to the performances.

Calvin Law said...

Louis: Oh I loved the film. Not without flaws but thoroughly engaging throughout. I think Leigh not winning would be the biggest travesty of all.

Calvin Law said...

Although I have to say, he who you all term 'The Other' I found very distracting, not that he was actively bad, but it's just that I thought the effect of having him onscreen was more of the satisfaction I took in seeing that stupid grin wiped off his face for having done that to Warren.

Couldn't help but think how someone like, say, John Hawkes, would have done in the role.

Louis Morgan said...

Calvin: I did not have a problem with him because there was not much of him anyway, but I do think the apparent original choice, Viggo Mortensen, would have made a much stronger impact.

Calvin Law said...

Ah, shit. I just remembered that rumour.

Oh Viggo. :(

Calvin Law said...

Is Roth a strong 4 for you (and any chance of him going up?), because I actually loved him here. So glad to see him in a good role/film once again.

Louis Morgan said...

Calvin:

Very strong actually and he could easily go up.

Calvin Law said...

What would your top 10 list of Tarantino performances be?

Calvin Law said...

Matt Mustin said...

Could've sworn somebody requested Mads Mikkelsen in The Hunt. That's an astonishing performance that you should definitely at least see.

Calvin: We all know the only choice for John Ruth is John Wayne.

Robert MacFarlane said...

I went to see The Big Short. I walked out of it halfway through. It broke me and it beat me.

Matt Mustin said...

Robert: Are any of the cast at least decent?

Michael McCarthy said...

I still say Carell was really good inThe Big Short, even though the film was a mess.

Phoenix for Joker. Seriously one of the films of the decade. Amazing
