I have Keaton as co-lead in NIGHT SHIFT, but I don't see Henry Winkler in your lead line-up at all. Curious to your thoughts!

Louis: Shatner and Nimoy as well for Wrath of Khan.

Louis: One of your labels needs to change.

1982 Alternate Supporting instead of 1982 Alternate Best Actor

Thoughts and rating for James Hong in Blade Runner?

I have a proposition, Louis. What if we do a "Wiseau" week for the blog? A week where you review legendarily bad performances like Travolta in Battlefield Earth and the likes.

I have already started my spreadsheet for the bonus review line ups =D.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: I'm going to give one of my Suggested Bonus Lineups in advance
2010/2011 Lead
Mads Mikkelsen - Valhalla Rising
Edgar Ramirez - Carlos (alt. Ryan Reynolds - Buried)
Jakub Gierszal - Suicide Room
Woody Harrelson - Rampart
Peter Mullan - Tyrannosaur

RatedRStar said...

=D I am so happy we have the bonus reviews, that ll keep this blog going for at least another 2 - 3 years and I aint going anywhere =D, basically I imagine any performance that wasn't on Louis rankings is eligible which is awesome cause that means more new films and performances can appear to surprise everyone and get people interested, plus snubbed performances that Louis hasnt seen yet.

Like here is an example I think is possible (1965/1966 or if it is going to be 1966/1967)

Max Von Sydow - Hawaii
Stephen Boyd - The Fantastic Voyage
Paul Newman - Harper
Jean Martin - The Battle Of Algiers
Donald Pleasence - Cul-de-sac

Louis would that be the kind of lineup that would work? as an example =).

RatedRStar said...

Yes Luke =D exactly what I thought, and ohh you devil =D you remembered my winning request lol.

@Koook160: I think bad performances have an even greater chance of appearing on the bonus reviews in the normal section, oh wow Louis I can think of some bad ones I would love for you to see, remember Richard Dix =D.

Robert MacFarlane said...

As long as Joaquin Phoenix gets reviewed for The Yards, I'm good. I Think he could easily take 2000 Supporting for it.

Luke Higham said...

Personally, for each lineup, I think, there should be 6 instead of 5 reviews, just to balance it out. e.g. 3 for 2010, 3 for 2011.

RatedRStar said...

@Koook160: Why dont you choose him as your winning request =D then he is guaranteed.

@Luke: That could happen but with years like the 40s and 50s that might not be possible, like all of the contenders for 44/45 could all be from 44 since that is clearly a stronger year for film performances =D, I think it is more unpredictable if it is just any amount from a year.

mcofra7 said...

Wasn't Phoenix requested?

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: Honestly, for the earlier decades, it would be a bit too much, but from the 60s onwards, certainly.

Only thing I am wondering is how Louis will number each year, like is it going to be 1998/1999 and 2000/2001 or the opposite 1999/2000, 2001/2002?

RatedRStar said...

@mcofra7: Oh was he? lol =D I honestly didnt know.

RatedRStar said...

@Luke: Well I dont expect Louis to see most of those lol =D, I will just do what I usually do and suggest the 5 I am most interested in seeing =D.

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: I don't expect him to, but if not reviewed, then for the overall ranking instead. Also, there are many female performances for him to watch as well.

Also, what is your 2010/2011 Lineup.

RatedRStar said...

I dont actually know if Louis is doing female performances, I imagine not because he probably would do the real Best Actress category, then the alternate like with Best Actor.

my 2010/2011 lineup Best Actor (if that is correct)

Jakub Gierzal - Suicide Room
Jake Gyllenhaal - Source Code
Ralph Fiennes - Coriolanus
Michael Smiley - Kill List
Lau Ching Wan - Life Without Principles

Luke Higham said...

RatedRStar: I didn't say to review them, but getting around to watching them. The Blog has been Male Exclusive since Day 1.

Louis: Are you willing to do a set of ten reviews for some bonus lineups.

Luke:

Kline - 2.5(I kinda really liked the scene where he modestly apologizes to Peter MacNichol's character after his outburst. That earlier outburst and all other ones though I feel Kline goes a bit on the hammy side going into A Fish Called Wanda territory but the problem is he was suppose to be over the top and funny there)

Brimley - 4.5(His first section is well done bringing that usual solid Brimley presence to the scene. I particularly liked his quiet yet powerful reaction as he runs the tests on the computer. The jump is then purposeful though, as we never know when Blair would take over and his actions could be seen two different ways. Anyway though it is rather disconcerting to see the usually so confidant and commanding Brimley breakdown to such an intense insanity that may be a man who's lost his mind or an alien playing a game. He's especially good in the scene where MacReady checks on him as there is something so chilling about his manner as he speaks calmly enough but yet there is something so clearly wrong with him. Great work from a very reliable character actor.)

Durning - 4(This performance stands as an oddity since he obviously should have been nominated for it considering since he was nominated for an inferior performance and Tootsie was far more popular with the Academy as a while. Durning does some really solid work in his role playing his role nicely strange. He exudes a nice bit of fatherly warmth, and also manages to make his character's falling in love with Dorothy sadly believable. His final scene is very well acted as Durning suggests the anger and bitterness in his character while still showing that he can't but kinda help but kinda laugh at what happened)

Might as well ask about the Blade Runner and Star Trek men in their co-star's review.

If a year is strongest enough for five all alone I would just do a single.

RatedRStar:

That's essentially it.

Jackiboyz:

I'll figure it out.
