That's a mere guess, since I haven't seen Farnsworth...but De Niro and Finney are BRILLIANT in their respective films.

They are technically 82 =D,

My number 3 of my top ten films of 2014 was....Whiplash =D.

1. Robert De Niro
2. Richard Farnsworth
3. Mel Gibson
4. Albert Finney
5. Kurt Russell

The Thing is just a gem of a horror film, the special effects still look great, The Year of Living Dangerously is actually my favorite film of 1982 I thought it was perfect =D, Shoot The Moon is pretty darn effective if quite melodramatic at times, particularly the restaurant scene.

@John Smith: Some of the cast of Deliverance are review worthy I feel, and in such a weak year as 1972, they could make it in.

Luke Higham said...

KoooK160:
2000: Now We Are Free from Gladiator
2001: Come What May from Moulin Rouge or May It Be from The Fellowship of the Ring
2002: Lose Yourself from 8 Mile
2003: Into The West from Return of The King
2004: Accidentally in Love from Shrek 2
2005: Wunderkind from Narnia, although my favourite song used in a film was Peggy Gordon from The Proposition.
2006: You Know My Name from Casino Royale
2007: Falling Slowly from Once
2008: The Wrestler from The Wrestler
2009: The Weary Kind from Crazy Heart
2010: Ramona from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
2011: Star Spangled Man from Captain America: The First Avenger (I guess)
2012: Skyfall from Skyfall
2013: Young and Beautiful from The Great Gatsby
2014: I Love You All from Frank

Robert MacFarlane said...

I'm one of the few people in the world who hates Young and Beautiful. I guess Lana Del Rey just rubs me the wrong way.

Luke Higham said...

KoooK160: I assure you, I would've gone with Let it Go a year ago, but the constant air time, it's received over the past 15 months, has cooled my appreciation for it. Everything is Awesome is a close second place for 2014, but I love you all, was able to hit me on a more emotional level.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Let It Go isn't played at all in my area. I was actually surprised when I found out it was overplayed on the radio elsewhere.

Luke Higham said...

KoooK160: It's still in the UK Top 70 and is continuously played on Music TV Channels as well.

Luke Higham said...

KoooK160: Actually, I've changed my mind on Star Spangled Man, my favourite for 2011 is A Real Hero from Drive.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Real Hero doesn't count. It was a single two years before Drive came out.

Luke Higham said...

KoooK160: Ok then, back to Star Spangled Man, god, 2011 was fucking weak. I'll say, that A Real Hero was my favourite song, featured in a film for that year, original or not.

Robert MacFarlane said...

It was definitely the best use of a song that year.

Luke Higham said...

1. De Niro
2. Farnsworth
3. Gibson
4. Russell
5. Finney

GM said...

Can't really understand why most say that's Finney and Keaton best performance.

Robert MacFarlane said...

I could see Gibson getting a lower score than Finney, but mostly because he's overshadowed by Hunt the entire time.

Michael McCarthy said...

I'm not sure if I'm gonna lower Finney to a certain degree because I think he overcame the film to a degree, I just can't decide how much of one. And his relationship with Keaton was kind of intriguing.

Honestly the ending of that movie was so horrendous it kind of made me forget how bad some of the other scenes were (like the plate smashing scene and the scene where Finney talks to Keaton's father)

Fuck it:

1. Robert De Niro
2. Richard Farnsworth
3. Mel Gibson
4. Kurt Russell
5. Albert Finney

GetDonaldSutherlandAnOscar said...

Well looks like I'm in the minority here as I loved the film and found it very powerful. I'll keep Finney up there at number 2 for now against my better judgement.

Louis Morgan said...

Luke:

Ford - 4(Basically his rendition of Philip Marlow right down to having a bookstore equivalent scene when he's interviewing the model replicant. Now there is technically a type of complexity involving what he is exactly, but that's all direction since Ford himself refused to play a robot. Ford though is good in portraying his fairly straight forward in his leading man style, as one would expect, and the straight forwardness works well for the film as he stands as something we think we know while he interacts with things we don't)

Olsen - 4.5(The more I think about the film the less I like it, but Olsen does give a good performance. She's effectively careless and naive in her scenes with the cult but does well to slowly convey the dissatisfaction she gains with every revelation. She's also does well in the scenes set later as she portrays the growing paranoia and fear in her character)

Moretz - 4.5(The more I see of her the more I find her kinda a lackluster actress. She's good here though, and maybe being an action lead is the way to go for her. She manages to funny while being bad ass, and although the character is absurd in nature Moretz manages to ground in a form of reality rather well)

Williams - 4.5(She's does well to kind of show a more artful form of duplicity against the more faulty form presented by Brosnan's politician form. Williams alludes to it just enough within her portrayal of the bitter wife who seems to hate her husband more every second)

Mulligan - 4(Her performance was easily my favorite of the film even though her's is technically the least emotional. Mulligan though I felt was more moving in her portrayal of her's character resignation that acted as an effective counterpoint to the more explosive work of Knightley and Garfield. I felt she found more poignancy in the story by portraying the sadness in merely going along with the path set for her)

Best Song:

2000: Thing Have Changed - Wonder Boys
2001: May It Be - The Fellowship of the Ring
2002: Gollum's Song - The Two Towers
2003: Going Home - Gods and Generals
2004: The End of the Act - Team America: World Police
2005: Rider's Song - The Proposition
2006: You Know My Name - Casino Royale
2007: Falling Slowly - Once
2008: The Wrestler
2009: Crazy Heart
2010: Romona - Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
2011: Pictures in My Head - The Muppets
2012: Skyfall
2013: Do You Want To Build A Snowman? - Frozen
2014: I Love You All - Frank

RatedRStar:

#3: Nightcrawler

John Smith:

Let me save the Deliverance cast for the moment.

Matt:

Stanton - 4(I don't think an actor's ever gotten more out as little as Stanton has in his minute or two of screen time. In just his exchange of looks with Farnsworth and his simple question you absolutely understand the relationship between the brothers, making the ending satisfying even with its brevity)

Rourke - 3.5(Also incredibly brief screen time, but Rourke is very moving in just giving a brutally honest portrayal of a man's grief)
