Alternate Best Actor 1951: Results

5. Farley Granger in Strangers on a Train- Granger gives a good performance that is likable well never avoiding the weaker aspects of the character. The film belongs to his co-star though.

Best Scene: Guy meets Bruno.
4. James Mason in the Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel- Mason gives a strong assured performance despite being in a somewhat thankless role.

Best Scene: Rommel gives his final goodbye to his family.
3. Kirk Douglas in Ace in the Hole- Douglas gives a slick and sharp performance that succeeds in portraying both his character's immorality and the eventual conscience he gains.

Best Scene: Chuck finally gains morality.
2. Robert Walker in Strangers on a Train- Walker gives an amazing villianous turn in this film that is both chilling and a delight to watch.

Best Scene: Bruno stalks Guy's wife.
1. Alastair Sim in Scrooge- Good Prediction Koook160, and Michael Patison. Sim gives a great performance as the often played Ebenezer Scrooge. He succeeds in every aspect of the role from the cold business man through his transformation than finally an exuberant man who has found a new lease on life. This really is just a matter of having to put someone in first place at the moment. I am not one hundred percent sure of this decision, as each time I think of Walker's performance I feel like I should give him the win. Although this is hardly my final decision the win goes to Sim for the moment.

Best Scene: Scrooge takes up his Nephew's invitation after all.

Stanley Holloway for Lavender Hill Mob could count if your putting Alec Guinness for 51.

Hm, another request. Can you review Dennis Hopper in River's edge for 1987 Best Supporting
Actor?

Michael Patison said...

For my request, how about Basil Rathbone in The Adventures of Robin Hood for 1938 Best Supporting Actor.

For my request when you next cover the 00's could it please be 2001.

Lezlie said...

2001 would be great, there's Boromir in it! :D

I dont think anybody needs to worry about Sean Bean getting in for 2001, since on my um, oscar list (its an excel spreadsheet) for each year he is on there for 2001 =D

Lezlie said...

Oh I'm not worried, he was one of my requests :)

I tend to ask for performances, that have no chance of making the cut rather than ones that will most likely =D.

Robert MacFarlane said...

But Thorton was a clear lead in Monster's Ball. Was I the only one impressed with Heath Ledger's performance in that more than anyones else's?

RatedRStar said...

ive put him in supporting because of the strong 2001 best actor field, and yes I didnt like Ledger at all.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Dude, category fraud is not good.

RatedRStar said...

doesnt matter in a weak field like supporting 2001 sometimes a lead should be degrated.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Joe Pantoliano in Memento and Brian Cox in L.I.E. not good enough?

RatedRStar said...

sorry =(, its also because Billy Bob is in my best actor lineup for The Man Who Wasnt There, and you dont really see many double nominees on this blog that will get in the final lineup so I had to relegate which ever he was least important in.

RatedRStar said...

and I didnt really like Pantoliano enough to put him down, ive never seen L.I.E so.

RatedRStar said...

Mememto is 2000 as well, not 2001.

Robert MacFarlane said...

That's terrible reasoning. That's like me putting Sam Rockwell in Lead for Galaxy Quest because I liked him too much in The Green Mile. That makes zero logical sense. I could at least understand a boderline case of it (like Christian Bale in The Fighter), but this is just blatant lying.

RatedRStar said...

but Rockwell is absolutely supporting in Galaxy though lol, look I get what your saying but meh whatever man.

RatedRStar said...

tell that to the academy about terrible reasoning lol im just some kid with emo hair XD.

Robert MacFarlane said...

They do have terrible reasoning for it.

RatedRStar said...

they do XD lol.

Michael Redgrave in The Browning Version would be another performance to watch for this year. He won Cannes for the performance.
