Alternate Best Actor 1973

And the Nominees Were Not:

Edward Fox in The Day of the Jackal

Steve McQueen in Papillon

Martin Sheen in Badlands

Gene Hackman in Scarecrow

James Coburn in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid

I'll apologize in advance for leaving so many out as this year simply was packed.

Yes, it is a definetely a packed year (and also a tricky one to predict)! Glad to see you include Coburn though :)

Thank you for including Hackman. I think you'll love him in this and its so different to his darker performance the next year in The Conversation.

I am in the dark with pre 75 except for v popular classics,so i find this interesting.

Im suprised people havent heard of Scarecrow considering it has Hackman and Pacino in it. It is somewhat similar to Midnight Cowboy so it probavly gets a little forgotten but the performances are tremendous.

I really hope Sheen wins this one. Probably the only time Malick ever "let loose" an actor.

I think another reason why it wasnt heard of much is because Pacino at this point seemed to be getting more plaudits for Serpico and it seemed to overshadow him in this, this film wasnt quite as box office material or mainstream as Serpico so which did most of the public see, Serpico.

Martin Sheen looks kinda cute in that picture =D lol did I just say that.

I've seen McQueen who was pretty terrific here. But considering your admiration of Hackman, I wouldn't be surprised if he won.

Predictions:
1. Hackman
2. Sheen
3. Coburn
4. McQueen
5. Fox
