Best Supporting Actor 1995: Results

5. Ed Harris in Apollo 13- Ed Harris gives a very standard performance that never turns into anything special.
4. Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys- Pitt's performance is somewhat interesting in his first few scenes even if over the top in his craziness, but as he continues to appear his performance just become repetitive.
3. Tim Roth in Rob Roy- Tim Roth gives an appropriately flashy villainous performance with a certain slimy charm.
2. James Cromwell in Babe- James Cromwell gives a wonderful performance that is genuinely moving and heart warming. It is a unique performance that finds just the right tone, and creates the right presence throughout the film.
1. Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects- Good prediction Dinasztie. Kevin Spacey gives a great performance that perfectly conveys the right sort of mystery with his character without ever giving away too much or too little through the course of the film.

GOT it right! Yay!

I hope this year is next. I wonder about your thoughts, especially Max Von Sydow who IMO can easily pull off that "shocker" win.

Do you think Plummer is that much of a lock? I don't think he is but he'll probably still win anyway.

BTW, I watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Moneyball. Oldman was indeed fantastic though I liked him a little less than you. I thought Pitt was terrific as well.

My ranking as of now:
1.Pitt
2.Oldman
3.Clooney

Best Actor is far and away the most interesting race of all. Gonna watch Bichir and Dujardin as well of course, I'm gonna come back with my ranking. :) Maybe I'll do a small Best Actor ranking on my blog. :)

I believe Pitt can also pull a shocker. His movie is clearly loved and he's an Oscarless superstar. Clooney, unfortunately, is also very likely. And if that's good news for you, Oldman can also win, IMO, based on his career and the love for his movie. Dujardin is the front-runner and from what I've heard he's gonna be a worthy winner.

Only Demian Bichir is out of the running. In his case, the nomination was the real reward. He was the Melissa Leo of this year. He might win an Oscar like her, after all.

RatedRstar: 37 will be soon but not next.

Anonymous: That year will be very soon.

Dinasztie: Von Sydow could pull an upset, since we have not seen him compete against Plummer yet and they are both veterans.

Although I am personally still annoyed by Albert Brooks since when speaking overdue Brooks is the only one of those three who deserved to win for his previous nomination.

Glad to hear you at least like Oldman, I look forward to your ranking. As for the race I think Dujardin will win which I am fine with since he is an extremely close second for me. He will definitely win though if he wins Bafta, although I think Oldman could actually win there, but even if Oldman wins there I would say Dujardin will still win in the end.

Also I will get to this year's supporting race as soon as I have a chance to watch My Week With Marilyn.

How did you like Benicio del Toro in The Usual Suspects?

Louis Morgan said...

He was fine, but did not leave that much of an impression on me.

I just rewatched The Usual Suspects, and del Toro likewise didn't leave that much of an impression on me as he did the first time. Instead, every other member of the case did. I particularly found myself impressed with Pete Postlethwaite (of course Spacey most of all though).
