Best Actor 1954

And the Nominees Were:

Humphrey Bogart in The Caine Mutiny

James Mason in A Star is Born

Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront

Bing Crosby in The Country Girl

Dan O'Herlihy in Robinson Crusoe

So who will it be the broken down Ship Captain, the broken down screen actor, the broken down boxer, the broken down stage actor, or the guy who was on a broken down ship.

Mason & O'Herlihy are extremely good in their roles - but for me, there's no question it's Brando. I don't think it's the masterpiece alot of people like to make it out to be, but it's still a far & beyond performance.

Yay, great year! I know that Brando is unbeatable but Crosby and Mason deliver great work, too!

For me this is Brando without any hesitation. He's probably my favorite winner in this category. Bogart is somehow the weak link, I haven't seen O'Herlihy, Mason was great, Crosby is not my cup of tea.

Predictions:
1)Brando
2)Mason
3)Crosby
4)O'Herlihy
5)Bogart

As much as I would love to do 1961 which seems to be the most requested year of any year, I cannot until I find The Mark which is somewhat elusive.

I do feel it would have been a deserving winner, and that Kurosawa should have won director, but I ever so slightly prefer On the Waterfront as an experience overall.
