Rains in The Invisible Man is amazing, I would say his finest work, he really disappears into the role...hehe ;)

Oh and by the way, Louis, who would you say is the least deserving Oscar winner of all time. After pondering a long time I decided Sinatra over Gooding Jr. for as someone mentioned before Gooding Jr.'s performance was not without merits, and he gave a good speech, whereas Sinatra turned a potential five Brennans performance into a hamfest

And a very poor annoying hamfest at that, also by all accounts Sinatra was a rotten character in real life. Just to show how bad his performance was, Strauss and Palance deserved to win over him for roles that were so much more limited and yet so much more memorable, sorry for going on a rant everyone for having just rewatched Stalag 17 and From Here to Eternity back to back I am infuriated at the underratedness of the former and the overratedness of the latter aside from Clift Borgnine and Lancaster

The Invisible Man is such an entertaining film, funny and with special effects that are actually still nice to look at. Claude Rains is so badass in this film.. POP GOES THE WEASEL, I could almost fall for him =)

I know Charles Laughton will still win the year overall and he should, but Rains is like, oh my god the final scene in The Invisible Man when we finally see Claude Rains face lol, its like the start of an amazing career =D.

I'm not sure about Actress at the moment. My pick for Supporting Actress though would very easily be Merle Oberon in The Private Life of Henry VIII.

Louis what are your thoughts on Cavalcade and its direction?

Louis Morgan said...

Oberon - 4(Very limited screen time to be sure, but I thought in that little time she honestly suggested a great deal of Anne Boleyn in a somewhat comedic fashion as well. There is the exasperation of the whole trial in her performance, but Oberon has a glint of the power needed for the character's manipulations and power that were once there. Her appearance is extraordinarily brief but Oberon made the most of it)

I found Cavalcade to be a dull turgid affair that seemed so confidence in the importance of its story that it never bothered to tell it in an interesting way. Lloyd's direction is extremely by the books, and fails to invigorate any portion of the tired material.
