Fourth Anniversary of Best Actor and Another Official Line up

Well in my usual fashion on the anniversary I'll do my predictions for what the line up will be that returns me to the official Oscar nominees.
This ought to be the lineup in lead if the Academy decides to be predictable, and this year predictability seems to be a good thing.
Of course Sag could line up, but hopefully it will not. Hopefully Whitaker will go the way of DiCaprio in J. Edgar.
Or if Wolf makes a major play.
Or if the Academy loves American Hustle as much as they did Silver Linings Playbook.

Obviously the Academy could always throw two of the seemingly secured for two others, although I would never bet on that. They could also take in someone like Oscar Isaac or Joaquin Phoenix, but I would not bet on that either.
Supporting seems like it could be two players for the last spot. If the Academy goes for American Hustle Cooper probably will be it.
Then again Gandolfini could carry his Sag nomination to a posthumous Oscar nomination.

Of course someone could always pull a Max von Sydow, perhaps Tom Hanks or Jonah Hill, and knock out both of the variations or someone else. That someone would probably be Bruhl or Abdi. Leto seems extremely secure and Fassbender has the necessary precursors and I would be very surprised if he missed out at BAFTA. Again I would not bet on Bruhl and Abdi missing as they are both doing very well for themselves.

How many of the performances have you seen Louis? I just saw American Hustle today and was very unimpressed. Bale and Adams were great though. I thought Cooper both under AND overacted, if that's possible.

It's interesting. I can totally see them going for American Hustle (just like SLP).

Happy New Year!

Matt: For lead I still need to see Dern, Dicaprio and McConaughey. For supporting I only need to see Leto.

Happy New Year!
I still have many performances to see, but I have seen The Butler and I'm surprised you disliked him so much.
If he isn't nominated, will you include him on your alternates's list, so that we can enjoy your opinions not just briefly like in a comment?

Out of these ten, five will be nominated and the other five should get Louis Morgan reviews.

I just got back from Inside Llewyn Davis. If there is any justice in the world, Oscar Isaac will be at the Kodak theater this year.

I just saw Inside Llewyn Davis. Isaac was terrific and is probably my current winner, though I have pretty much every major film left to see. I was relatively underwhelmed by the film as a whole. Definitely not the Coen Bros best, or even their 2nd or 3rd best.

I really dug the film actually. It was a melancholy character study about a guy who's both a victim of society and his own self. Reminded me a lot of The Fabulous Baker Boys. It's my #4 at the moment behind Frozen, 12 Years a Slave, and Before Midnight. I also LOVED Carey Mulligan's small role. Easily her best since An Education.

Michael--

"The Hunt" is phenomenal. Mikkelsen is seismic in it. I have it as a 2012 release (where's he's my #3 to Phoenix and DDL). He'd be in my top three in 2013 if I had him here. I gave it a 10/10.

Michael McCarthy said...

Good to know! I didn't realize it had had any non film festival releases in 2012 but now that I'm looking into it I can see that it was released in several countries before 2013.

I just saw Wolf of Wall Street. I actually thought Dicaprio was great and deserves some award recogniton. Hill didn't impress me that much though.

Oh yeah, it's nice to see you back on this blog, dinasztie.

Mark: I didn't like Jonah Hill that much either.
