Being that Olivier was on 55 Louis, I am really hoping that Kirk Douglas wins that Oscar that he deserves so much, I know John Wayne and James Mason are strong favourite's to dethrone him but I think Masons time will be 53 and Wayne really doesn't deserve a win in my opinion compared to other actors.

It was quite a shock when Anthony Quinn won for Lust for Life, nobody expected him to win, Rooney and Stack were pissed lol. I wonder if they gave it to Quinn simply because they wanted Lust For Life to win something if Douglas was beaten since Douglas must have been one of the favorites to win.

Off-topic, but are you a fan of the Harry Potter films Louis? If so, which is your favourite?

I won't be upset or surprised if James Mason ends up winning '53, but I kind of hope it stays with Montgomery Clift, since he was fantastic in From Here to Eternity and was so underrated in his day.

Have you seen Red River Louis? It's a great movie with an equally great performance from Clift, and a pretty good one from John Wayne. It wasn't in your 1948 lists I noticed.

Oh strike that, I just rechecked and apparently you have seen it, my bad.

Of course I am a huge Montgomery Clift, one of the biggest, he is in my top 5 favourite actors, I sometimes cry knowing he never won an Oscar and never received the credit he deserved.

Actually, I just realised, I think James Masons best chance of winning is 1982 supporting, which im fairly confident Louis wants to reward him for something, I think Louis knows that, if Mason had like 15 nominations and no wins it would just be quite shocking lol.

I don't see Clift losing 1953. I simply don't see how somebody could've given a performance just as good as him, much less better, in the same year. He's simply stunning.

I also think Mason's best chance for a win is 1982 Supporting. I can't think of any huge threats to him off the top of my head.

Maybe Kevin Kline in Sophie's Choice?

Matt: I like the Harry Potter films well enough, my favorite would be Prisoner of Azkaban.

Robert MacFarlane said...

Funny, I seem to be the only person who HATES how they adapted Prisoner of Azkaban. Then again, my favorite film in the series is Deathly Hallows Part 1, and most fans think that one sucked.

Robert MacFarlane said...

@Michael: Uh, how about Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner winning in a cakewalk? I don't even like that movie and I would give him the win in most years.

Michael Patison said...

I too think Prisoner of Azkaban is the best film of the series, but do think it is lacking as an adaptation. Artistically, it just has so much going for it that none of the others ever had.

I thought about Hauer, but I don't even think he is on Mason's level.

Robert MacFarlane said...

I couldn't get behind PoA's artistic merit. It just seemed like a Tim Burton knock-off.

I am not worried about Mason winning, he will win eventually, I am merely only worried about one actor who may not win, Ill need to keep an eye on 1946 lol.
