My Nominations

For fun and for the record I have decided to list my nominations for every actor who receives at least nominations from me. I should clarify that I have decided to ignore the academy's rule and allow 10 nominations per year. The reason for this is I firmly believe that one can find ten worthwhile performances to recognize if you actually try unlike the academy who will have filler nominations with only five. I should note that these lists are subject to change.

Kirk Douglas holds the Louis Morgan record for most nominations without a win lol.

When I first saw this I was like, what the hell just happened? :D
And I must admit it's still a little confusing to me...More performances will be added to this I believe, like Leonardo DiCaprio's Aviator and such, right? And I see you changed your mind about Daniel Day-Lewis winning 2012 and gave it to Phoenix instead :( You made me a sad panda.

RatedRStar: I have to say I hate not being able to give him a win.

Lezlie: I have only listed the nominations for the years ranked so more nominations will be added every time I do another year. Also to be perfectly honest the decision of 2012 lead is still not set in stone.

The way I like to look at your Oscar nominations and wins is not by year, but by overall rankings. Like if you go by year, Jack Nicholson has only 2 Oscars from you, Louis. If you don't go by year, he has 7.

I like it, im glad you have a mind of your own Louis, most fanboys would throw a tantrum at seeing De Niro not winning for Raging Bull or Godfather 2 but you stick to your own viewpoints which is awesome. I love seeing the two wins for Gene Hackman, hopefully many more :)

ye is it strange that I actually follow Louis law on the Oscars rather than the actual academy rules themselves, like I now sorta believe Kirk Douglas has been nominated 8 times instead of three, um Claude Rains has got 4 nominations for both lol =D.

Two observations that made me happy:

1. Yeehaw, Joaquin! I knew you would come around (eventually).

2. You finally concede that Jackson was co-lead in Pulp Fiction. Did my arguments persuade you, or did the re-watch?

As for other observations, why did you like John Hurt in The Proposition so much? I love that movie to death, but for me he was the only weak link. Too much scenery chewing for my tastes.

I'm going to try to stick to 5 for my own personal nominations, but I completely agree that there are certainly 10 deserving performances in both categories every year. Whenever I add somebody new to my nominees, I always feel that the person I'm forcing out is completely deserving.

WHAT JOAQUIN PHOENIX gahhhhhhh.

I go with five nominees just make it simpler. If I do 10, my brain would explode.

koook/RatedRStar: Phoenix in the Master.... one of the most divisive performances of all time I think.

Koook: 2. Well your argument got me thinking and re-watching the film convinced me to switch his placement.

Well I thought John Hurt's scene chewery was warranted in that his character was suppose to be dead drunk, and I felt it made an interesting dynamic with his second scene where he was "on the job".

Most people love Phoenix in The Master. I don't think hes that great of an actor (don't get my started on his overrated performances in Walk the Line and Gladiator) and I much prefer his brother's acting, but he's flawless in The Master. Its in his comfort zone of intensity but its the best hes ever been.

actually Louis I just realised with Kirk Douglas and his 8 losses, theres still one chance that he could pull a win, with 1956, but that's not a guarantee with 56 having a lot of strong snubs.

Michael Patison said...

What about Tom Hardy? Doesn't he have 2 noms?

Louis Morgan said...

I will add him I didn't originally because I was still toying whether I put him or Edgerton at the number 10 spot.

Michael Patison said...

Fair enough. I liked them both pretty much equally. The thing that put Hardy over Edgerton for me was Edgerton's short outburst at Nolte in front of Edgerton's house. He lapsed back into his Australian accent for a second or two, and that was enough for me. I can still see exactly why you were waffling back and forth.

Fun list. You should list your winners year to year.

Very cool you gave it to Robert Prosky in 1981 (I assume it was for Thief?).

Louis: You forgot to put 1 win beside 3 noms for Waltz.
