I have only seen Malkovich and Fishburne yet, but Malkovich was very fine and Fishburne did a good job for the context of the film, but the performance itself was nothing to remember...

Interesting, I remember Fishburne the most from the film, with Weaving. And although it's not a wonderful performance, but I believed him as this mysterious wise-ass guy, with the cool shades :D
I believe he will either get a 3 or a 3.5. Haven't yet seen Plummer and Malkovich, Baker was good, although I believe you can't really pick one guy from that film as I think all of them gave great performances (probably Cruise was the best). I'm hoping for a Rickman win :)

1. Alan Rickman
2. Philip Baker Hall
3. Christopher Plummer
4. John Malkovich
5. Laurence Fishburne

I haven't seen Philip Baker Hall in "Magnolia" yet, but I rank the others as follows:

1. Laurence Fishburne
2. John Malkovich
3. Alan Rickman
4. Christopher Plummer

Fishburne's performance as Morpheus in "The Matrix" is one of my big favorites :).

A very interesting group of nominees.

The Matrix is one of my least favorite movies (I know, I know, I'm in the minority there) and Fishburne doesn't have nearly enough to do.

Alan Rickman is hilariously deadpan in Galaxy Quest, but none of the perfs in that film quite reach "Oscar" level quality (not even Sig). Well, maybe Missi Pyle. ;)

Malkovich is fantastically funny in BJM. I don't love the movie, but he's my clear choice of the three I've seen. I haven't seen The Insider or Magnolia, sadly.

Oh, sh*t, I'm 13th. :D A very interesting bunch of performances. I'd go with Malkovich, my goodness, he's great. Never seen Plummer or Rickman.

Predictions (very random, because they all seem so strong):
1. Malkovich
2. Fishburne
3. Plummer
4. Rickman
5. Hall

Anonymous: He is pretty good, he is also good in Galaxy Quest too.

I wanted to ask about Sam Rockwell, too, I'm glad you found him to be good in both films. His was my favourite supporting performance in The Green Mile, and second only to Rickman in Galaxy Quest :) He's a good actor who deserves much more recognition than he gets :(
