Best Actor 2007: Results

5. George Clooney in Michael Clayton- Clooney in my opinion fails to create a very interesting character with Michael Clayton, as well as he fails to really be truly effective lead for a thriller.
4. Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd- Depp I do not find is entirely bad as Todd, but his approach to Sweeney is one note of anger and depression that just is not that interesting.
3. Tommy Lee Jones in In The Valley of Elah- I like much of Jones' performance, which is emotionally on the mark in showing the character's grief, and pain. I did not believe though was the entire change of the character, which was not made convincing by him or the script.
2. Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises- This  is a strong effort that relies effectively on both Mortensen ability to show the command and control of Nikolai, as well as Mortensen ability to suggest the underlining and hidden motivations of his character.
1. Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood- The sheer scope, and achievement of this performance leaves an undeniable impression.

Great job with these. Love Viggo as your first choice. Which year is next for best actor? :)

Well I will give a hint, I am going to do it because of something that recently occurred.

Oh, I know the next year, I think. But I won't tell because I'm not 100% sure.

I haven't seen Viggo but I'd like to. Once. I can wait. XD

YES!!! Viggo Mortensen is one of my favorite actors, anfd I'm glad to see someone recognize is abilities. He is far too underrated.

Great job! I'm so glad Clooney's last (he didn't even deserve a nomination in my opinion) and also it's a surprise to see Daniel Day-Lewis only in second place, I'll have to check Eastern Promises very soon.

Is 2009 next?

Thanks, and no 2009 is not next.

I really disagree about Clooney, but I"m surprised that Day-Lewis isn"t first and that George is last.

I think Depp is good, but I see your point about him. I really like the movie, but it has a bit of a bad taste left to it..

Are you a fan of the musical? Do you like musicals in general?

So glad Viggo won - Depp is just terrible in all of his nominations.

Joe: Yes I do like that particular musical. I can't say I really like musicals in general though, but when they are really good I do like them.

You should really obtain a copy of the film The Valiant and review it for the 1929 blog performance reviews you did. They sell copies of this film on ioffer.com and elsewhere on the internet and it is not as obscure a title as you thought it was and can easily be found online. Paul Muni is excellent in it and very subtle compared to his other performances. I even read reviews for The Valiant on imdb in which people who admit to not being fans of Muni's acting in general still found his performance to be exceptional in this.

4. Johnny Depp for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. 75 out of 100 (B).
5. George Clooney for Michael Clayton. 65 out of 100 (B-).
